Training The Trainers
“I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting. In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.” (1 Timothy 2:8-10)
Today’s Morsel: One of the things
about the apostle Paul is that he was a great spiritual leader. When we read
his epistles, we see that once a person became born-again of the water and the
spirit, Paul expected them to live a godly and holy lifestyle. He told the
church at Galatia: “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto
Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after that faith is come, we
are no longer under a schoolmaster. For ye are all the children of God by faith
in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put
on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free,
there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye
be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.”
(Galatians 3:24-29) His letters are really training tools being sent to the churches
instructing them as to who they now were, and how they now must conduct
themselves as representatives of Christ and His church. Some of his
instructions to Timothy for the churches he was overseeing, were to teach men
to pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath (anger) and doubting.
You see, if you do not pray, you will not stay. You must maintain a consistent
prayer life as a child of God. In like manner also, he said, that women must
adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with
broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women
professing godliness) with good works. He said, teach the women under you to be
modest in dress and appearance, with shamefacedness (honor and respect) and
sobriety (to be of a sound mind and with self-control) for themselves. He
informs Timothy that in the last days it would be captive silly women laden with sins that would get led away with divers’ lusts, who
were ever learning, and yet never able to come
to the knowledge of the truth. Therefore, if men and women are
to be godly and holy, they must learn how to maintain a solid prayer life, and
the women must have honor and respect, be of a sound mind, and have
self-control for themselves.
Sing: Every hour of the day, keep me, dear
Lord I pray, let me walk in the gospel light. Let me hold fast to Him, so
my way won’t grow dim, let me walk in the gospel light.
Let me walk in the light, in the great gospel light; let me
walk in the gospel light. Till my journey is over and I travel no more,
let me walk in the gospel light.
Thought For Today: “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the
same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2)
