Unspeakable Joy

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” (Psalms 30:5)

Today’s Morsel: Having joy in one’s life is essential to good health and stability. Joy causes us to be jovial, clear-headed, obedient, and able to encourage others. But if we lose our joy, then we will allow other things to plague our minds and cause us defeat. Peter tells us: “Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” (1 Peter 1:6-9) Notice: He said that if you are being weighed down because of temptations, hang in there; it is just a trial of your faith. And even though you do not see Jesus now, keep rejoicing with unspeakable joy. Do not stop worshipping and praising Him. Your joy is not predicated on what you are going through; it is predicated on who you know. Jesus!  Remember, joy is one of the traits of character that came with the Holy Spirit.

Sing: I get joy, joy, joy, when I think about the Lord; when I’m standing in His presence, I say give me more and more. Well, it starts in my hands, and it moves down to my feet; and I have the joy, joy, joy, all over me.

Thought for Today: “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.” (James 1:2-3)

Sharing That True Love

“Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.” (1 John 4:7-11)

Today’s Morsel: We learn in life that there are basically three types of love. Agape, which is unconditional love. Philia, which is a brotherly or friendly love. And eros, which is romantic love. Speaking to the church at Corinth, Paul states: “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.” (1 Corinthians 13:1-8) We must not be hypocrites when it comes to God’s love. He told the church at Colossi: “And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.” (Colossians 3:14) If God is that true love according to John, how do we share Him with others? We must put it on. We must be clothed in Him. Jesus said: “Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.” (Matthew 10:8) We have freely received His love, so by taking actions to help and encourage others, we share His love with them, because He is true love.

Sing: I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, I am glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

Thought for Today: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” (John 13:35)
