The Crucifixion
“And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And sitting down they watched him there; And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
(Matthew 27:35-37)
Today’s Morsel: The crucifixion of Jesus Christ has plagued the
minds of many. Some have rebuffed Christianity because of God's sacrifice of
His son. Some have even questioned for what purpose, was this a waste. Isaiah
said, “But he was wounded
for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes
we are healed.” (Isaiah
53:5) And some may even question as to how do we find a ‘Good
Friday’ out of what seemed to be an evil day? The writer
of Hebrews states, “For
Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven
itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should
offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year
with blood of others; For then must he often have suffered since the foundation
of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to
put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (Hebrews 9:24-26) That is why it is
called Good Friday. Our sins can now be remitted through the blood of Jesus
Christ. You may not understand the crucifixion, but as the Lord told
Habakkuk, “Write
the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For
the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not
lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not
tarry.” (Habakkuk
2:2-3) Hang in there, you’ll get
an understanding of the crucifixion. Jesus, the holy Lamb of God,
sacrificed for you and me. Oh what a Savior.
Sing: Living
He loved me, dying He saved me, buried He carried my sins far away; rising He
justified, freed me forever, one day He’s coming back, oh glorious day.
Thought For Today: “Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put
him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see
his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper
in his hand.” (Isaiah
53:10)
