2014 December 31 - Morning Manna

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? 
(Deuteronomy 10:12-13).


Today’s Morsel: Does the thought ever run through your mind what is required to make it into heaven?  I’m sure most of us have attended class and the instructors told us up front what was required to pass. In his recap to the children of Israel, Moses brought to their remembrance what the Lord required of them. He told them, “But to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, to keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good.”  There is really nothing hard about what he told them. He just basically told them to respect God, do what He tells you, and commit your life to Him, and you’ll be blessed beyond measure (my paraphrase).  The things of God are easy to do if we just make up our minds and do them. Remember, being born again and living holy gets us on the road to heaven, but obedience takes us all the way there.
  
Sing: When we all get to heaven what a day of rejoicing that will be, when we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory.

Thought for Today: Being born again and living holy gets us on the road to heaven, but obedience takes us all the way there .

2014 December 30 - Morning Manna

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; and patience, experience; and experience, hope: and hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us (Romans 5:1-5).

Today’s Morsel: If someone were to ask you to define “justified,” what would you tell them?  The best way to look at justified is: “just (as)—if—I’d.”  Just as if I’d never done anything wrong.  Just as if I’d never made a mistake. Just as if I’d have never lied, cheated, or stolen. Paul said, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (I Corinthians 6:9-11).  You see, once you were baptized in Jesus’ name, it’s just as if you’d never done any of those things Paul mentioned.  The blood of Jesus is like an eraser; it removes our sins.  If you confess your sins, Jesus will wipe them away.  You don’t have to be ashamed of the sins and wrongs you’ve done in the past if you have been born again.  You’ve been washed, sanctified, and justified in the name of Jesus Christ. Be of good cheer.

2014 December 29 - Morning Manna

For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost: so that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia (I Thessalonians 1:5-7).


Today’s Morsel:  Every born-again believe has the power at his disposal to start a new world for someone else.  Think about this for a moment; Jesus said that a man must be born again of the water and the Spirit, and that comes through obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Paul told us that as we have borne the image of the earthly Adam, we must bear the image of the heavenly, Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 15:45-49).  And Solomon said, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).  Your world can be turned upside down.  Darkness may be all you see in your tunnel, nothing may be going right for you, and you may be even thinking about ending it all.  But obedience to the gospel can put/bring you into a new world of peace, joy, power, and reassurance in who you are and what God created you for.  Remember, Satan’s world is destruction and death, but when you get into Jesus’ world, it is abundance of life. 

Sing: Let there be singing, let there be joy, let there be praise in the house of the Lord. Let there be mercy, rejoice, rejoice, we're building together the house of the Lord.

Thought for Today: Obedience to the gospel can put/bring you into a new world of peace, joy, power, and reassurance in who you are and what God created you for.

2014 December 27 - Morning Manna

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. (Romans 6:1-6)

Today's Morsel: I'm often appalled by the people who say that they are Christians, yet they feel that it is okay to maintain a little sin in their life.  They say, you know no one is perfect.  And so because they feel that way, they think that it is okay to sin "just a little".  But little sins are like a snowball rolling down a snow covered hill; they get bigger and bigger.  Sin is like having a boxer bulldog puppy as a pet.  He's cute while he is small but he's not going to stay that way for long.  Little sins never remain little, and they always affect someone else.  Joseph's brothers probably thought it was fun selling him into slavery to get him out of the house.  But little did they know that what they thought was just a little sin would cause their father and the entire family and nation of Israel grief for the rest of their lives. As Moses admonished, "But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32:23).  Paul said that we should not continue in sin once we are saved.  That old sinful man is buried in the watery grave of baptism in the name of Jesus.  There has got to come a time that the sin faucet is turned off, a lock put on it and the key thrown away.  The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life.  

Sing: Are you washed in the blood, in the soul cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?


Thought for Today: Leave off sin before it be meddled with.

2014 December 26 - Morning Manna

The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.
(Proverbs 16:31)

Today's Morsel: Many folks become depressed when they see gray beginning to grow in their hair. Some see this as a sign of growing old, and so they try to change it back to its original (younger) color by dying it.  But Jesus said, "Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black"(Matthew 5:36).  Solomon's words are and should be of great encouragement to us.  He said that the hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness.  If we are doing right and living right, then when our hair starts to change its color, God is bringing about illustrious beauty in us.  Righteousness is the white linen of the saints of God.

Sing:  To be like Jesus. To be like Jesus. On earth I long to be like Him. All though life's journey from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.

Thought for Today: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (Jesus Christ)

2014 December 25 - Morning Manna

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2:1-7).


Today’s Morsel:  Christmas! One songwriter says, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!”  I would tend to agree, but not just because of the happy meetings, the kids' happy greeting, or the mistletoe!   It is the most wonderful time of the year because we are celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  I enjoy my own birthday, and I am thankful when my wife bakes a cake for me and my family and friends help me celebrate the day I was born.  How much more should we celebrate God Himself leaving heaven to come robed in flesh to save His people from their sins?  Enjoy this great day.  Spend it celebrating the greatest gift of all, Jesus’ love for you. 

Sing:  Happy birthday, Jesus; I’m so glad it’s Christmas. All the tinsel and lights and the presents are nice, but the real gift is You.

2014 December 24 - Morning Manna

 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).

Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us (Matthew 1:22-23).

Today’s Morsel:  Why would Almighty God robe Himself in human flesh to come to the earth?  This question seems to plague many.  Some have even questioned how this can be.  It even divides the church.  Jesus said, “With men, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”  As God asked Abraham, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?”  He questioned Job, “Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me. Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” (Job 38:2-7).  Not until you have a full understanding and revelation that Jesus Christ was God manifested in flesh can you understand who you are in Him and what He desires to do through you.

Sing: Immanuel, Immanuel, His name is called Immanuel. God with us, revealed in us. His name is called Immanuel.

2014 December 23 - Morning Manna

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting (Micah 5:2).

Today’s Morsel: Each city has a meaning for the name given to it and for its existence.  Many cities are named after some famous explorer or hero, while others are named for their location.  They say that you can learn a lot about the attitude and lifestyle of people based on the city where they live and who the founder of the city was. 

Bethlehem, which is the city of David, lies about five miles south of Jerusalem.  There Jacob buried his wife Rachel. There Ruth gleaned in Boaz’s field, and it was also there where David was anointed king of Israel.  And it was there Christ was born in a manger and the wise men came seeking the Savior.

Bethlehem is the city of bread.  Jesus said, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35).  Did Jesus make this comment because He was born in Bethlehem and thus was from the city called bread?  No, my friend, He made this comment because He is the true bread that came down from heaven, the Bread of Life.  But because of God’s plan to come to the earth, be born of a virgin, and establish His church, He chose the city in which David, a man after God’s own heart, had been anointed, Bethlehem Judah.  The littlest among the thousands of Judah, out of it would come the one to be the ruler in Israel.  Israel represents the church, and Jesus came to earth to establish and rule His church, not some earthly kingdom.  As He told Pilate, “My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence” (John 18:36). The only kingdom Jesus is going to set up on this earth is in you, when He fills you with His Spirit.  Paul said, “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost” (Romans 14:17).  Who rules you?

Sing: O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie, above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by: Yet in the dark streets shineth the everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

Thought for Today:  He is still the Bread of Life.

2014 December 22 - Morning Manna

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God (Luke 1:26-35).

Today’s Morsel:  What have you done to get ready for Jesus’ coming? When we look at history, this moment of His coming was foretold by many of the prophets of old and even by Gabriel, the messenger angel.  The Bible says that out of the mouth of two or three witnesses every word will be established.  When we look at John 1:1, 14, it says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”  The Greek word for “word” is logos, which means “thought or plan.”  So in the beginning was the plan, and the plan was with God, and the plan was God.  And the plan was made flesh and dwelt among us.  The Bible said that Gabriel was sent by God, meaning it was God who dispatched Him to earth to prepare for the plan. God knew whom He would choose to be in His plan.  He knew the location of the plan, and He knew how the plan would unfold.  When Gabriel told Mary the plan, Mary said, “How shall these things be, seeing I know not a man?” Gabriel answered, “The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee.”  He said to her, “God is going to make it happen.  For with God nothing shall be impossible.”  And Mary said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word” (Luke 1:37-38). In other words, she stated, “Let it be as God has planned.”  The plan was that God would come to earth to seek and to save that which was lost. Where do you fit into God’s plan?  If you don’t know, just sit tight; it will be revealed to you shortly.

Sing:  Christ by highest heaven adored, Christ the Everlasting Lord: Late in time behold Him come, offspring of a virgins womb. Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate Deity! Pleased as man with men to dwell, Jesus our Immanuel, Hark! the Herald angels sing, "Glory to the newborn King."

Thought for Today: God's plan has not changed.

2014 December 20 - Morning Manna

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this
(Isaiah 9:6-7).

Today’s Morsel: Probably one of the most exciting times for married couples is when they have planned for a child, God grants their wish, and that child is born.  The psalmist said, “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward” (Psalm 127:3).  Isaiah prophesied, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given.”  So to whom was this child born?  To the entire world.  This child belongs to everyone.  He’s very special. He’s wonderful.  He’s great, and He’s going to do great things for us.  He’s a counselor.  He’s going to become a therapist.  He’s going to be able to diagnosis every area that is wrong in our lives and give us advice on how to get it fixed.  He’s the mighty God, the everlasting Father, and the Prince of Peace. He’s going to be the one who brings peace into the storm of your life.  He’s going to be the one who calms the raging seas of doubt, uncertainty, despair and fear in your life.  He’s the one who spoke the world into existence, who gives life to all, and who saves man from his sin.  He was God manifested in flesh (I Timothy 3:16).  This glorious child that was given is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.  No other description or such wonderful words could have identified Him. What do you call Him?

Sing:  Joy to the world! The Lord is come; let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare Him room, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and heaven, and nature sing.

Thought for Today: Jesus will still reveal Himself to those who seek Him with a pure heart.

2014 December 19 - Morning Manna

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us. And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child (Luke 2:8-17).

Today’s Morsel:  The annunciation of Jesus Christ into the world was demonstrated by a heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”  This was not just another child that was being born; this child was special.  This was God manifested in flesh.  This was the Savior of the world. This was the one whom Moses and the prophets had written about.  This was the one spoken of by the prophet Micah who would come, “But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting” (Micah 5:2).  Bethlehem means the city of bread; it was the city of Naomi, Ruth, Boaz, and David—and now the city of the Lord Jesus Christ.  Do you see what I see?  Do you hear what I hear?  Do you know what I know?  Listen!  We have a Savior. We have a King and we have a Lord.  His name is Jesus Christ. “For neither is there salvation in any other, for there is none other name under heaven given unto men whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). “And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16).  Do you know what I know?

Sing: It came upon the midnight clear, the glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold: "Peace on the earth good will to men, from heaven's all gracious King." The  world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing.

Thought for Today:  Everybody ought to know who Jesus is.

2014 December 18 - Morning Manna

Today's Morsel:  I often wonder why we seem to wait until the month of December to tell the Christmas story.  Didn't Jesus commission us to go preach the gospel to every creature?  "And he said unto them,  Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover" (Mark 16:15-18).   So why do so many wait until December to do it?  I recently read in a magazine that most Christians are afraid to share their faith with others.  Why do we go about wanting to do more good deeds in December than the rest of the year?  Many of the church leaders decided that we wouldn't knock on doors this coming year to share the gospel and invite people to church, but rather we would go about doing good deeds for our neighbors, like baking, and being more involved in community projects.  As born again believers, Jesus said that we should be letting our light shine.  Therefore, we should be telling the world everyday and on every opportunity we get to share Jesus.  I believe that many would enjoy Christmas so much more if they knew what it meant before December.  Every day we should be proclaiming as the angels did, saying to the people, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord." "But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them" Paul said (2 Corinthians 4:3-4).  People can't be saved without Jesus Christ in their lives.  And it is our duty to tell them. Not only in December, but all year long .

Sing:  Go tell it on the mountain, over the hill and everywhere. Go tell it on the mountain, that Jesus Christ is born!

2014 December 17 - Morning Manna

Today's Morsel:  What would you do if you looked up in to the sky and saw a host of angels praising God and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men?  Well this is what happened in Bethlehem over 2000 years ago at the birth of Jesus.  The heavenly host announced His arrival just as scripture said that they would.  This annunciation by the angels that a Savior had been born, even today, should cause us to be excited and ready to worship Him.  Many in Jesus' time were looking for Him to come, but others were not.  Some, like today, had no idea what it was all about.   Many people wondered what the shepherds told them, and even today, many still wonder when the shepherd, their pastor, tells them.  But not Mary.  Scripture says that she kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.  And even the shepherds, when they had seen Jesus, returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.  What is your response when you hear the gospel?  Do you get excited about the good news about of Jesus Christ?  Do you go tell others, glorifying and praising God?

Sing: Said the little lamb to the shepherd boy, do you hear what I hear, ringing through the sky shepherd boy,.  Do you hear what I hear?  A song, a song high above the tree with a voice as big as the sea, with a voice as big as the sea

Said the shepherd boy to the mighty king, do you know what I know, in your palace wall mighty king.  Do you know what I know?  A child, a child, shivers in the cold,  let us bring him silver and gold, let us bring him silver and gold

2014 December 16 - Morning Manna

And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

Today's Morsel:   When we look at the Christmas Story, many fail to understand the picture that is being painted with Mary. What was going on here?  How was Mary going to conceive without knowing a man?  We all understand that it takes a man and a woman to birth a child.  The angel Gabriel told Mary, "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God."  John said, " Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is" (1 John 3:1-2).  What makes you a son of God?   The Holy Ghost. "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Romans 8:9).  You can only be called a son of God by the Spirit of God.  This is why Jesus in His humanity was called the Son of God.   He's never called God the son because He was God.  This miraculous birth was done by the Spirit of God.  Jesus told the woman at the well, "God is a Spirit..." (John 4:24).  And John wrote that, "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one" (1 John 5:7).  Notice, they are one, there is no division here.  The word was made flesh and dwelt amongst us (John 1:14).  Jesus was the Father in creation (Colossians 1:16), He is the Son in Redemption (Galatians 4:5; Titus 2:14), and He is the Holy Ghost in operation ( Luke 12:12; John 14:26; Acts 2:1-4; Acts 4:8; Acts 8; Acts 9; Acts 10; Acts 16; Acts 22).  Mary knew what it felt like to be filled with the Holy Ghost and to birth a Son of God.  And she didn't hesitate to go to the upper room and wait with the disciple for the Day of Pentecost (Acts 1:14), because she wanted to be filled again with God's Spirit and birth more sons of God.  We, too, are filled with God's Spirit for one purpose, to birth sons of God so those sons can birth more sons of God.  Remember, Mary had to have the seed planted inside her to conceive.  The seed is the Word of God (Luke 8; 1 John 5:7).  Don't be confused with the natural, as it has a spiritual application.

The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will walk again.
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
This sleeping child you're holding is the great I am.

2014 December 15 - Morning Manna

 
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning
(James 1:17).

Today’s Morsel: Christmas is a time of sharing and giving gifts.  The giving of gifts extends back into the Book of Genesis.  When a man wanted to marry a daughter, he brought gifts to the father.  Many of the principles and practices that we do today, when it comes to giving, are handed to us from times past, and many are based on biblical principles.  Even Solomon, the wisest man, said that a gift given in secret pacifies anger (Proverbs 21:14). The wise men were the ones who brought gifts to Jesus. What is it about gifts?  Why do we give gifts at birthdays and at Christmas time?  Because it’s a part of sharing with others what we have.  It is a principle of giving.
  James told us that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from God.  The best gift, the perfect gift, comes from God.  Paul said, “Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; to another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: but all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will” (I Corinthians 12:1-11).  They are of the Spirit.  God is good, and God is perfect. Have you received that good and perfect gift?  If not, Peter told you how you can receive it. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” (Acts 2:38-39).  The Holy Ghost is the good and perfect gift because it is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Sing: Immanuel, Immanuel, His name is called Immanuel. God with us, revealed in us. His name is called Immanuel.

2014 December 13 - Morning Manna

By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him (Hebrews 11:5-6).

Today’s Morsel: Everything that a Christian does is driven by his or her faith. Many people have tried to define faith. Some use Hebrew 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Some say, “Faith is what you need to please God”; others say, “It is what you need to be saved and to receive the Holy Ghost”; and some say, “It’s your ability to see God in your dark times”; while others say, “It’s just plain old trust.” But do these sayings really define faith? The entire eleventh chapter of the Book of Hebrews is called the “faith chapter” because it reveals what others did and what they received because of their faith. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:5, “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” Notice, Enoch didn’t see death because of his faith. Did you know that you, too, will not see death if you walk and live by your faith? You may die in this flesh, but you will always be alive in the spirit. Even Jesus died in the flesh, but He was quickened by the Spirit. And this same Spirit will quicken your mortal bodies.  Paul said that if he was absent from the body, he was present with Christ (my paraphrase). Paul knew that as soon as he died in the flesh, he would be with the Lord. He knew that he would be translated right out of here. You see, it takes faith in God to come out of the world, and it’s going to take faith for you to get out of this world.

2014 December 12 - Morning Manna

Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed (I Chronicles 22:11-13).

Today’s Morsel: Sometimes I ponder on what David must have instructed his son Solomon when he was with him. I know his mother taught him a lot of things, and we see this when we read the Book of Proverbs. But David seemed to want Solomon to be successful in his kingdom for God and not to make the mistakes that he had made. But man seems so soon to leave what they have been taught and know is truth to seek for pleasure, satisfaction, and gain. You know, I know that God wants every one of us to prosper and to have good success. His Word tells us that. But it should not be a doctrine and teaching to make you think that if you do this or that, God will do this or that for you. God and His Word are what make us prosper and become successful. Once you read it and become a doer of it, you are going to prosper. First, you will prosper in spiritual knowledge and understanding. Prosperity and success are based on making right choices and right decisions. God’s Word will give you wisdom so that you are able to make those right choices and right decisions. Wisdom puts you on the right road and directs your path as to how to become successful. Putting money in an envelope and calling it sowing a seed of faith isn’t faith because you are looking for something in return. Jesus said to give and expect nothing in return (Luke 6:35). That’s faith because you understand that He will supply all your need. David told Solomon, “My son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thee.” He wanted him to know that prosperity would come from his God. John wrote, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (III John 1:2). The best kind of prosperity is a well-fed soul and good health. I’ll take that any day over money or material possessions.

Sing: Jesus at the center of it all, Jesus at the center of it all, from beginning to the end, it has always been, it's always been you Jesus, Jesus. Nothing else matters, nothing in this world will do, Jesus you're the center, everything revolves around You, Jesus You, at the center of it all.

Thought for Today: The best kind of prosperity is a well-fed soul and good health.

2014 December 11 - Morning Manna

 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel 
(Psalm 76:1).

Today’s Morsel: The Book of Matthew begins with the words, “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham” (Matthew 1:1). When we look into Scripture, we can see that both Jesus and David were of the tribe of Judah. Isaiah said, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). He also recorded, “And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also? Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:13-14). The Son’s name would be Immanuel. Matthew, who opened the lineage of Judah, said, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS” (Matthew 1:21-25). The psalmist said that in Judah is God known. Judah means praise. Therefore, in your praise is God known. How you exalt and magnify Him will make Him known unto others, and they will be able to see just how great He truly is.

Sing: How great is our God, sing with me how great is our God, and all will see how great, how great, is our God.
Name above all names, worthy of our praise, my heart will sing how great is our God.

Thought for Today:  How you exalt and magnify Him will make Him known unto others.

2014 December 10 - Morning Manna

Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

Today’s Morsel: How much do you trust God? Let’s look at it this way. Your boss and others may think you’re a nut for believing in God. Trust God anyway. Your spouse and others may think you carry your faith a little too far. Trust God anyway. Your family and friends may think you’ve lost your mind for protecting your children and family from the ways and things of this world. Trust God anyway. Your health may be failing. Trust God anyway. Your stress may be unbearable. Trust God anyway. Your career may seem like it's on a slow train to nowhere. Trust God anyway. To make it in this world and live the Christian life, there is only one way; that is to trust God. Habakkuk said it best when he said, “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Habakkuk knew that to get to the place where God desired him to be, it would take him trusting in God at all times, in all places, and in all ways. 


Sing: I'm gonna praise the Lord anyway that I can; I'm gonna praise the Lord anyway that I can; praise Him in the morning, praise Him all day long, I feel like praising, praising Him.

2014 December 9 - Morning Manna

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him (Colossians 3:12-17).

Today’s Morsel: I’ve been looking at and listening to this thing called peace. We hear of peace talks, but very little comes of them. We hear of peace accords, and nothing comes of that. We hear people say, “I just wish they would give me some peace.” Isaiah said that God would keep us in perfect peace, but few seem to find it. And the apostle Paul told us that we should let the peace of God rule in our hearts, but few do. So we may wonder why people seem to have no peace but rather turmoil in their lives. If Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and He is, and we are told to allow Him to rule and reign over our thoughts, shouldn’t we obey? If God will keep me in perfect peace if I keep my mind on Him, shouldn’t I? And if He’s asking to lead me, shouldn’t I let Him? When we submit our will to His will, we live in a calm and serene state. If God can stand on the bow of a ship and tell the wind and the waves to be at peace, don’t you think He can keep you in perfect peace? Remember, God is not the author of confusion but of peace.


Sing: Peace, peace, wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above, sweep over my spirit forever I pray, in fathomless billows of love.

Thought for Today: A confused life could be missing the Prince of Peace.

2014 December 8 - Morning Manna

And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me. And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her (Genesis 29:18-20).

Today’s Morsel: Observing Jacob’s actions here, we could say that this was love at first sight. I’m sure some of you, when you were young, saw a boy or girl that you fell in lust with the first moment you saw that one. What is it about love that captures our hearts at such an early age? The Bible says, “And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.” Love can sometimes cause us do some unimaginable things. Moses told the children of Israel, “The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: but because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8). Sometimes our love may be based on a vow we’ve made to someone else. I think all marriage vows should fit this point. Jesus even asked Peter three times if he loved Him (John 21:15-17), to see if he was committed to their relationship and His calling. A true calling of God births a love for God, the people of God, and the things of God. If we love God, we should love one another. “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another” John said (I John 4:7-11). Always remember, Jesus loved you first and He still does.

Sing: I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship you, oh my soul, take joy My King in what You hear, and let it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear.

2014 December 6 - Morning Manna

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words
(I Thessalonians 4:13-18).

Today’s Morsel: Can you remember as a kid how excited you were as Christmas approached each year? Do you remember the excitement and joy of just waiting for that day when you would awaken and get to open those gifts? When we are anticipating something that is really good, joy oftentimes fills our hearts, and we just can’t wait for that special moment to come. That’s how we should feel about Jesus. Each day, we should anticipate what new things He will bring our way. We know that it’s going to happen, as Scripture says that He daily loads us with benefits (Psalm 68:19). Therefore, our anticipation level should always remain high. We should anticipate the new and refreshing revelation of truth and His Word. The new insight and opening of our understanding to Scripture. A new direction based on the Word of God. A new outlook on life. A new and refreshing dose of the Holy Ghost and power. Excitement, day by day. Paul said that we shall not all sleep but we shall be changed (I Corinthians 15:51). Does that excite you, knowing that someday Jesus is going to call us home? Don’t be discouraged, my friends. We are going to a better place, so be encouraged.


 Sing: I'm going to a city where there will be no more night, I'm going to a city where Jesus is the light, the trumpet's gonna sound, and I'll be called away, I'm going to a city someday.

Thought for Today:  This world is not your home so don't put down stakes.

2014 December 5 - Morning Manna

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is thy keeper: the LORD is thy shade upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore (Psalm 121:1-8).

Today’s Morsel: Every so often, I like to look into the sky and see what activities are going on. I see the sun, moon, and stars. Sometimes I see jets venting or birds flying. At other times, I see the clouds moving, the wonders of God. The psalmist said, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” I think we all should be lifting our eyes toward the hill that gives us our strength. When we look up, we can see the things of God because, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof” (Psalm 19:1-6). If you keep looking up, the chance of you going down becomes very slim. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory” (Colossians 3:1-4). Remember, your treasure is in heaven and not hell. So look up!


Sing: Turn your eyes upon Jesus; look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth, will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.

Thought for Today: Look up for your redemption draweth nigh.

2014 December 4 - Morning Manna

Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me
 (Job 23:3-6).

Today’s Morsel: If you could sit and talk with anyone you wanted to, who would it be? I have seen interviews with presidents and world leaders, and it’s amazing some of the questions that people choose to ask. Of all the questions that were asked of Jesus, none of them seem to be personal in nature. People asked Him about the end times. They asked Him to teach them to pray. But none of it was personal. So one day, Jesus told them, “Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full” (John 16:24). Jesus was saying, “Ask your questions now so you will get an answer and be happy.” Job said, “Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat! I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me. Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.” Job said, “I would ask Him if I could find Him and know what He would say, and He would give me strength.” God isn’t out to destroy you. He has your best interests at heart. So ask Him your questions, and see if you don’t gain strength in your inner man from the answers He gives.

Sing: Now let us have a little with Jesus, let us tell Him all about our troubles, He will hear our faintest cry He will answer by and by, when you feel a little prayer will turning, you'll know a little fire is burning, you'll find a little talk with Jesus makes it right.

Thought for Today: Jesus always has your best interest at heart.

2014 December 3 - Morning Manna

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled (2 Corinthians 10:3-6).

Today's Morsel:  A few weeks ago, I preached a message about controlling our thoughts.  It is amazing the number of people who suffer from wrong and evil thoughts.  As I was studying, I felt the Lord speak to me that most people do not understand that His word is also given to us to be used as a sifter to help us sift out evil thoughts that may come into our life through our senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, feel).  Thoughts are first presented to us through our senses, and if we accept them, whether good or evil, they will grow in our minds if we retain them.  And once they grow, they can become strongholds.   Therefore, we should ensure that every thought is filtered through the Word of God.  "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God..." (1 John 4:1).  I think it might be time we start bringing our thoughts into the obedience of Christ.  How's your sifter working today?

2014 December 2 - Morning Manna

And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,) Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus. For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry (Acts 1:15-17).

Today’s Morsel:  How many people do you know whom at one time or another served God with you?  I mean they were in church with you, you saw them baptized, and they may have preached and taught Sunday school, led the youth group, or sang in the choir. They may have even been your pastors, but now they are missing in action. They are no longer serving God the same way you are. I don’t know about you, but this is heartbreaking and, in some cases, gut-wrenching for me. I’m always taken aback when people fall from the truth. I can only imagine what the apostles of Jesus must have felt like when Judas turned on Jesus and walked away. Judas had partaken of everything the other disciples had experienced. He had seen the miracles, heard the teaching, had his feet washed, and even partook of the Last Supper. If they took pictures in those days, he was in the picture. Even today, when I look at some of my old pictures, I see men and women who started out with me but are now no longer serving God. Like Judas, they had part in this ministry but now have gone astray. Therefore, I have come to realize that I must maintain a strong relationship with Jesus so that I do not fall away. I don’t want to think I stand; I want to know that I stand. And I can only do that by obeying God’s Word and keeping myself accountable to a true man or woman of God.  
  
Sing: He's my bread when I'm hungry, He's my water when I'm thirsty. He's my shelter in the time of the storm.  He's the Lily of the Valley, The Bright and Morning Star. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus , He's my all.

Thought for Today: Forfeiture of one's salvation for worldly pleasure is a large price to pay.

2014 December 1 - Morning Manna

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: and ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning (John 15:26-27).

Today’s Morsel:  A little girl came home from Sunday school, and her mother asked her what the preacher had taught.  To her surprise, the little girl said, “Don’t worry; you'll get your quilt.”  The mother was taken aback at the girl’s comment, “Don’t worry’ you’ll get your quilt.”  So the mother contacted the pastor to ask what he had taught on, and the pastor told her, “Your Comforter Will Come.”
  It’s amazing what children think they hear us ministers say!  Jesus told His disciples, “When the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.”  I don’t understand how people can read this and think the Spirit of God is a person.  Jesus said it will be the Spirit of truth.  When we understand that He, Jesus, is the truth (John 14:6), we understand that the Comforter He will send is His Spirit.  The Holy Ghost is the Comforter and the Spirit of Christ (John 14:26).  It is the Spirit of Christ that the apostles received on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4), and it is the same Spirit we receive today, making us His (Romans 8:9).  Therefore, to be a true witness of Christ, we must have the Comforter inside us. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8).  If you have not yet received your quilt, hang in there; your Comforter will come.


Sing: Well it's that Holy Ghost and fire that's keeping me alive, keeping me alive, keeping me alive; Well it's that Holy Ghost and fire that keeping me alive, Jesus is keeping me alive.
