 Do Good and Hurt You

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.(Joshua 24:19-20)

Today’s Morsel: Sometimes I don’t think that folks really understand God. Some people like to make vows to God, but then they renege on the promises that they have made, and they expect God just to forgive them so that they can continue to do wrong and go on doing what they want to do. But Joshua gives us a warning that many may not have read or seen in God’s word. He said to Israel, and to us, “If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.”  “Moreover, brethren (Paul said), I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.” (1 Corinthians 10:1-11)  Not only will God do you good, but He will also hurt you.   Don't make promises that you are not going to keep.

Sing: Hold to God’s unchanging hand, hold to God’s unchanging hand, build your hopes on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Thought For Today: “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints(Ephesians 5:3)
