Gladness In My Heart
“There be many
that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of
thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the
time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me
down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
(Psalms 4:6-8)
Today’s Morsel: During
my last year of high school, my English teacher was known as a tough lady.
Every senior cringed during the final exam that she gave. She was one of the
last teachers to post your grades, so it left everyone in suspense if they had
passed or not. Every senior graduating class had to sing a song during the
graduation ceremony. While we were in the choir room, no one seemed motivated
about singing the song because none of us knew if we had passed her final exam
and would be graduating or not. The choir director was getting angry at us for not
being motivated and singing. After a while, the door to the choir room opened,
and in walked our English teacher. With a booming voice, she said, “I can’t
believe that a bunch of graduating seniors cannot sing louder than that.
You’ve all passed.” She put joy in our hearts. The Psalmist said, “LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon
us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their
corn and their wine increased.” Nothing should rejoice the hearts of God's people more than the light of His countenance, or the enjoyment
of His presence. In Jesus, we should now find the joy and gladness that the
world and the things of this world could never provide.
Sing: In
His presence, there’s fullness of joy, at His right hand, pleasures
forevermore; oh, what fellowship divine, I am His and He is mine. In the
presence of the Lord, there is fullness of joy.
Thought For Today: “Light
is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.” (Psalms
97:11)
