River of Life

“Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar... “Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.” (Ezekiel 47:1, 8-9)

Today’s Morsel: When we in the church hear the term river of life, or living waters, we usually associate it with Jesus speaking to the woman at the well in John chapter 4. He told her that He would be in her a well of water springing up unto eternal life. But Ezekiel also presents to us the river of life. He is given a vision of waters ushering out from under the altars, from the house of God. And everywhere that these waters come, they were for the healing of the nations. Once we hear the gospel of our salvation being ministered from the pulpits in our churches, we are supposed to take it with us everywhere we go, as they are for the healing for all. Jesus Christ, the living water, the ‘River of Life’, must be taken into this sick world we now live in. He must be taken into the home, the hospital, on the planes, and the workplace, to those who are suffering and who have lost hope of life. We must have this well flowing and running over and out of us. “And it shall come to pass, that everything that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and everything shall live whither the river cometh.”  Fish can only survive in water. May the church always be a River of Life, and one where men can live and have life.

Sing: I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me, it makes the lame to walk and the blind to see, it opens prison doors sets the captives free, I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me. Spring-up Oh well, within my soul, spring-up Oh well and make me whole, spring-up Oh well and give to me, new life abundantly.
