The Step Between Life and Death
“And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death. Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.” (1 Samuel 20:3-4)
Today’s Morsel: Often, I don’t think that people realize that there is only one step between life and death. During wartimes, men have taken a step, stepped on a landmine and their life, as well as their friends’ lives, were taken. There have been soldiers who have taken a step and fallen into a punji pit, losing their lives. Men have taken a step and fallen off buildings, houses, and bridges, losing their lives. We never know what that next step will bring. David told Jonathan that there was only one step between him and death. He knew that if he made the wrong move and was not watchful, that Saul would kill him. Can you imagine living not know what your next step may bring? Many today are living their life filled with uncertainty, fear, and loneliness, because their lives are hidden from the gospel. Paul said that Satan has blinded their minds. They don’t think that there is any joy or happiness left for them in this life. Fear has gripped them and plagued them. But what they fail to realize is they are only one step away from joy, happiness, friendship, and newness of life. All they need to do is just take one step. Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) All anyone needs to do is just take one step toward Him, and He will meet them and bring them a new life full of hope. You don’t have to fear death, it has no power over you. God came to give us life and that more abundantly. But we must take the step to receive it. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” (Acts 2:38-41) Why not take a step toward Jesus today and see what He will do for you.
Sing: I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed; step in, step in, step in and be blessed. Step in, step in, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed; step in, step in, step in and be blessed. Step in, step in, step in and be blessed.
