Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 22 May 2023

Let’s Get into Judah

“David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me. And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold. And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.” (1 Samuel 22:1-5)

Today’s Morsel: Prior to David becoming the King of Israel, he found that people were starting to come to him for his help. Scripture says that all those who were distressed, in debt, and discontented, gathered themselves to him and he became a captain over them. There were about 400 of them. And David brought them to Moab, the city of his great, great, Grandmother Ruth for their protection.  But while there, he himself knew that he was still being hunted by Saul and that he needed to escape, or he could be killed as well as those who came to him. As Saul saw everyone that joined to David as being against him. And so, the prophet Gad told him that he needed to get into Judah. Judah means praise. Anytime that enemy is on your tracks, you need to get into praise. Anytime there are those under your leadership that are distressed, in debt, or discontented, you need to get into praise. Why? “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23) Praise not only brings deliverance and salvation, but it also brings peace of mind.

Sing: Let’s praise, Let’s praise, Let’s praise the Lord; let’s praise, let’s praise, let’s praise the Lord; He brought me out and set me free, from this old world of misery. So, let’s praise, let’s praise the Lord.
