Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2024 January 31

 Take Courage

“And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary. And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” (Matthew 14:22-27)

Today’s Morsel: Throughout scripture we are told to be of good courage. Just what does that mean? Courage is the determination that one is not to allow fear to stop them. Being of good courage is having a faith driven boldness to stand against all opposition, fear, or any enemies that may come against you. To help Joshua be of good courage, the Lord told him to meditate on the Word of God, day, and night. There is just something about reading and studying God’s Word that builds us up. Paul says that within its pages we can find hope in time of trouble. David said that when it seems that darkness is all around us, it is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway. And Jesus said that it is Truth. The disciples thought that what they were seeing was a ghost. Fear of the elements were pushing them into a state of demise and hopelessness. But from nowhere, they hear a familiar voice, the Word of God Himself saying Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. You see, this is why you need to read and study your Bible. Because that same voice that spoke to them still speaks to you and me saying the same thing. Let me encourage you today, fear not, be of good courage, wait I say on the Lord, and He shall strength your heart.

Sing: Standing on the Rock of age, safe from all the storms that rages; rich but not of Satan’s wages, I’m standing on the Solid Rock.

Thought For Today: “And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.” (Hebrews 12:27)
