The Law
“The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.” (Psalms 19:7)
Today’s Morsel: God gave the law to Moses for him to teach the children of Israel, and which is for us, to change their behavior. The law was about relationship with others. It was about unity, faithfulness, brotherly love, kindness, obedience, peace, and respect for oneself and others. The writer of Hebrews informs us, “For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.” (Hebrews 7:19) Speaking of that better hope, Paul wrote: “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.” (Ephesians 2:14-17) The law may not be able to make a man love me, but it can restrain him from killing me. The law may not be able to change a person’s heart, but it can restrain him from being heartless. It may not be able change a man’s heart, but it sure can break his behavior.
Sing: I love Him too much to fail Him now, too much to break my vow. For I promised the Lord that I would make it somehow; and now I love Him too much to fail Him now.
Thought For Today: “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Matthew 5:17-18)
