Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2024 January 16

 Heaven

“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

Today’s Morsel: What comes to your mind when you think or read about heaven? Is it a place that you are excited about going? Or is there some apprehension about your new location? Scripture says, “But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.” (Hebrews 11:16) The patriarchs were looking for that new heaven and new earth. Jesus tells us not to lay up our treasures here on earth where rust and moth corrupt, and where thieves break in and steal. But to lay them up in heaven. In other words, put your treasure where you are planning and desiring to go, and that is where your heart will be. Now think about that saying for just a moment. Is it any wonder why folks are afraid of dying? Their treasures are here on earth. All their money, CDs, investments, and children are right here on earth. And so they don’t want to leave them. But if they were to commit these things to the Lord, it probably wouldn’t faze them so much about leaving. As Paul admonishes us, “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:1-4) Have you made up your mind about where you want to go? I’m going to city that is prepared for me, hope to see you there!

Sing: I’m going to city there will be no more night. I’m going to a city where Jesus is the light, the trumpets gonna sound, and I’ll be called away, I’m going to a city someday.

Thought For Today: Heaven or hell, they are both eternal.
