Life’s Failures

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

Today’s Morsel: The Greek word for longsuffering is Makrothymia; which means patience, endurance, constancy, steadfastness, and perseverance. And we find that many of life’s failures are due in great part because of a lack of it. Many do not have the ability to endure and remain constant in their walk with God. Especially when they are enduring difficulties in their lives. Folks do not like suffering, pain, and troubles in their lives. But these things are not bad, they are life builders. People often want peace and contentment without the challenge, which is long-suffering.  But sad to say, what we oftentimes find is that the guilty party and enemy which causes a lack of these things in our lives is us. But we don’t like to be the guilty party for our failures. It must be something or someone else that is causing these things in my life. In the movie the Wizard of OZ, why did Dorothy find herself in trouble? She kept getting off the yellow brick road. Why did Israel keep having trouble in the wilderness? They kept murmuring and complaining. Why did the Lord tell Jeremiah that the people didn’t have rest? Because they would not do what He told them to do (Jeremiah 6:16). Life’s failures have to do with you. Not someone else. You can blame someone else, but the crown and the road for a successful life was given to all by Jesus at Calvary.  It is up to me to take accountability for myself.

Sing: Peace! Peace! Wonderful peace, coming down from the Father above; sweep over my Spirt forever I pray, in fathomless bellows of love.

Thought For Today: “In your patience possess ye your souls.” (Luke 21:19)
