Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2024 January 4

His Mercy Endureth Forever

“It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)

Today’s Morsel: Mercy...Not getting what you deserve, some say. But just what is mercy that God renews it every morning? Why does the scripture tell us to come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy? (Hebrews 4:16) Just what is it?  Mercy appears in the Bible as it relates to forgiveness or withholding punishment. I am sure that many of our parents showed us great mercy when we were kids, when we failed to do what they told us to do. When we should have received punishment for our actions, they forgave us and allowed us to go free. This is what mercy looks like. And it is what God does on a continual basis for us. But don’t take it for granted. Like your parents, God will get tired of allowing you to go free. The Psalmist states: If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.” (Psalms 130:3-4) We need to learn to respect and honor our Heavenly Father. Aren’t you glad that He loves you enough to forgive you for your wrong? Well, if you are, then it ought to cause you to love and respect Him the way that He deserves.

Sing: Years I spent in vanity and pride caring not my Lord was crucified; Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary.

Mercy there was great, and grace was free; Pardon there was multiplied to me; There my burdened soul found liberty, at Calvary.

Thought For Today: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.” (Psalms 136:1)
