Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2024 January 19

 Even An Ant Understands Wisdom

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.” (Proverbs 6:6-8)

Today’s Morsel: Our picnic pests, the ants, will not be seen by us for several months now here in Wisconsin. They will be deep within their habitation enjoying the winter and living with ease because they have stored away all the hotdogs, chicken, fruit, and ribs that we threw to the ground during the spring, summer, and fall. They know that winter was coming and so they prepared. The Bible tells us to observe them. The ants reveal to us the importance of preparing ahead for the unforeseen.  They don’t wait for winter to look for food. They get it when it is most plentiful. This is why, I believe, that it is essential that we go to church as much as we can while we are able to drive, walk, and can hear. It helps us prepare. Because should the Lord tarry, there may come a time that we cannot go to church and hear the word of God as we could have when we were younger. We should even be hiding the word in our heart through memorization, and daily Bible reading, so that if our Bibles are taken away some day, we will still have the word deep within our heart. As David said: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalms 1:1-3) Are you getting ready?  Prepare today for what may come tomorrow.

Sing: Well, I’m getting ready to leave this place, I’m getting ready for those gates of pearls.  Keeping my record straight, watching both day and night. Well, I’m getting ready to leave this place.

Thought For Today: “Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 24:44)
