Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 31 May 2023

An Inside View

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalms 139:23-24)

Today’s Morsel: Do you ever wonder how a radiologist knows what he is reading when they review your X-rays?  How do they know that what they see is cancer or a tumor? How does a doctor know that your kidneys are failing you? How do they know that you have vertigo, high blood pressure, or some other disease? Why does man listen to doctors about their physical health, but will not listen to their pastor about the state of their spiritual health? Are you aware that Jesus is the greatest physician there ever was and will be? He can see inside of you without an X-ray machine. I the Lord search the heart and try the reins, He said. The Psalmist pleaded for God to know his heart, to try him, to know his thoughts, and to see if there was any wicked way in him. He knew that he could not see inside himself and there was a strong feeling inside of him that things could be wrong and could cause him to do wrong or fail. Doctors are good based on what they have studied and learned. But always remember, they are called practitioners, they are not God. They are practicing, but God knows all things.

Sing: Amazing grace shall always be my song of praise, for it was grace, that brought my liberty. I do not know, just why He came to love me so, He looked beyond my faults and saw my need. I shall forever lift my eyes to Calvary, to view the cross where Jesus died for me. How marvelous, the grace that caught my falling soul.  He looked beyond my faults and saw my need.

The Remedy For Conceit

“Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.” (Proverbs 26:4-5)

Today’s Morsel: Have you noticed as I have, that folks today seem more conceited than ever before? Or should I say that the world is being filled with Narcissists?  Narcissism seems to be running rampant these days. It’s all about one’s own self-interest. Some folks are so conceited that they don’t think anyone will refuse them. Some have forgotten the Golden Rule. They have forgotten the Ten Commandments. They have forgotten what Jesus did for them at Calvary, or they completely shrug it off. They have forgotten what it means to be compassionate, loving, merciful, and caring. They have fallen in love with the Burger King motto. They now want it their way and they will not accept any other way. And sad to say, they want you to agree with them in their foolishness and evil ways; and if you do not, you are accused of being a racist, homophobe, bigot, or conservative, who hates others. Solomon says, “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.” (Proverbs 26:4-5) Notice what he says here. He says do not lower yourself by disputing or arguing with a fool or he will think that he has gotten the best of you, and you will take the chance of becoming like him. So, don’t answer him according to his foolishness or you will seem as he is, a fool. You answer him according to his foolishness with truth and wisdom so he will hopefully wake up and see his stupidity and change his life for the good. Truth and wisdom is always the remedy for conceitism (my word).

Sing: Change my heart O’ God, make it ever true, change my heart O’ God may I be like You. You are the Potter, I am the clay, mold me and make me, this is what I pray.   Change my heart O’ God, make it ever true, change my heart O’ God may I be like You.

River of Life

“Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar... “Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh.” (Ezekiel 47:1, 8-9)

Today’s Morsel: When we in the church hear the term river of life, or living waters, we usually associate it with Jesus speaking to the woman at the well in John chapter 4. He told her that He would be in her a well of water springing up unto eternal life. But Ezekiel also presents to us the river of life. He is given a vision of waters ushering out from under the altars, from the house of God. And everywhere that these waters come, they were for the healing of the nations. Once we hear the gospel of our salvation being ministered from the pulpits in our churches, we are supposed to take it with us everywhere we go, as they are for the healing for all. Jesus Christ, the living water, the ‘River of Life’, must be taken into this sick world we now live in. He must be taken into the home, the hospital, on the planes, and the workplace, to those who are suffering and who have lost hope of life. We must have this well flowing and running over and out of us. “And it shall come to pass, that everything that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and everything shall live whither the river cometh.”  Fish can only survive in water. May the church always be a River of Life, and one where men can live and have life.

Sing: I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me, it makes the lame to walk and the blind to see, it opens prison doors sets the captives free, I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me. Spring-up Oh well, within my soul, spring-up Oh well and make me whole, spring-up Oh well and give to me, new life abundantly.

Abiding In Christ

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” (John 15:4-7)

Today’s Morsel: What do you do to abide in Christ? Do you read and study your Bible daily? Do you participate in Bible studies, church attendance, and witnessing? Do you search and study the scriptures daily to see if those things that you are hearing across the pulpit and social media are true? Jesus states that if we do not abide in Him then we become as a branch that is cut-off, cast to the ground, is withered, and then cast into the fire. The analogy He gives is that of a horticulturist or farmer, who prunes his grape vines or fruit trees. The excess branches are usually burned once they fall off or are cut off by them. The branches die and they are put into the fire for burning. The metaphor also shows us that if we do not remain connected to Him, we too are going to be cast into the fire of hell and burned. Are you staying connected. Have you considered eternity lately?

Sing: Hold to God’s unchanging hand, Hold to God’s unchanging hand; Build your hopes on things eternal.  Hold to God’s unchanging hand.

Dark Days

“When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.”
(Job 30:26)

Today’s Morsel: I have always liked reading the book of Job. To me, the story of Job presents faith in a way that other stories in the Bible may not present it. The story of Job, to me, shows that bad things do sometimes happen to good people. It shows us that even though you are a Christian, by all accounts of Job's life, Satan desires to destroy you. It also shows us that there are things happening in the spiritual realm that we cannot see. Thus, we must walk by faith and not by sight. We know that Job loses everything but his wife and a few servants on day one of his attack.  A few days later his health is attacked, and his wife offers him a way out. Curse God and die. A few days later, his three closest friends come to see about him, and after seven days, they accuse him of sinning. So, stop and think about that for a moment. How do you think that you would have handled this situation? Job lets us know that there very well could be some dark days in our lives. There may be some days that you seek for good and only find evil. There may be some days that you wait for light and there is only darkness. There may be some days that a little ray of hope or words of encouragement would fit you just fine, and they don’t come. We could sit back and say old poor Job. But what sustained Job? It was his faith in God. Job said: “For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.” (Job 14:7-9) Do you know what Job is saying here? I believe, that he is saying that even though it seems as though life is gone from you, there is still hope for newness of life if you can get the scent of living water.  To me, Job is saying no matter how dark things may seem, and it may even seem that life may seem lost, yet Jesus Christ is still the life and the light. He said, “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him: But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.” (Job 23:8-10) Don’t ever think that Jesus doesn’t know where you are and what you are going through. He’s already promised you that He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Sing: For the God on the mountain, is still God in the valley, when things go wrong, He’ll make them right.  And the God of the good times, is still God in the bad times, and the God of the day, is still God in the night.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 25 May 2023

Opposition

“These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.” (John 15:17-21)

Today’s Morsel: What most folks do not understand is that there is going to be opposition to you being a Christian. They think that just because they are Christians and do good things, that the people in the world will love them for their benevolence, and that they will be willing to accept them for who they are. But sad to say, you are no longer a friend to Satan. You are his enemy and he’s going to do everything in his power to take you out. Jesus said if you were of the world, the world would love its own. This is one of the reasons that I believe that Paul tells you to put on the whole armor of God. I have heard preachers say, “We need more miracles, wonders, and signs, in the church to draw people to the church. I agree. People need to be able to see that Jesus still heals, delivers, and can change a person’s life. But most do not realize that these same things bring about opposition. I’m not saying this to scare you. I’m saying this to help you prepare. So that you will remain prayed up, standing up, and holding fast to what you believe and teach.  If you have read the book of Acts, as soon as the New Testament church is established there is opposition, in Acts 3-4, Peter, John, and others find themselves being beaten because a man was healed in Jesus’ name, that was lame outside the church. Opposition. In Acts 6, people got upset because they felt they weren’t being used in the church. Opposition. In Acts 7, Stephen preached one of the most beautiful messages one could have heard to bring them into a relationship with Jesus Christ, and he was stoned to death, because of the name of Jesus. Opposition.  In Acts 11, Peter gets called on the carpet for going to a Gentile’s house by his own brethren. Opposition.  In Acts 12, James is beheaded by Herod, and Peter is put in prison to have his head chopped off right after Easter (The Passover). Opposition. In Acts 13, Paul and Barnabas found themselves in opposition with some false prophets and sorcerers name Bar-jesus, and Elymas, who tried to prevent the deputy Sergius, from hearing the faith. In Acts 14, Paul is stoned and left for dead, because a cripple man was healed at Lystra. Opposition. Acts 16, Paul and Silas are beaten and cast into prison because they cast a demon out of a woman. Opposition.  I could go on and on, but hopefully, you have read the book as well. Jesus said that opposition was going to come when you preached and taught in His name. As I said, don’t let that deter you. We are God’s children and greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We become partakers of Christ’s suffering. If you truly want to see the miraculous in the church, then prepare yourself for the opposition, and don’t be afraid to go into all the world and preach the gospel.  We are warned of the perilous time that will come.

Sing: Greater is He that is in me, greater is He that is in me, greater is He that is in me, than He that is in the world.

Gaining Experience

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.” (Romans 5:1-5)

Today’s Morsel: Do you feel that the whole world is caving in on you? Do you feel like every time you think that there is light at the end of the tunnel, you find another train filled with problems coming your way? Do you feel like that cat hanging out on the end of the limb, and you know that if you move too much the limb may break? Paul told the church at Rome that we glory in tribulation. Why is that?  Because he said that knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope. You see, these things are designed to help us gain experience in our walk with God. If you never learn how to endure temptations, hardships, pain, and rejection, you will find yourself struggling in your walk with God and others. Again, Paul asked the church at Rome, and it is also written for you and me, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:35-39) To gain experience and be able to rejoice always, you may sometimes endure painful or difficult experiences that are useful in teaching you about life. And we call these things being in the school of hard knocks.  So, the next time you feel as Jacob, when he said that all these things are against me (Genesis 42:36) just chalk it up as you are gaining experience.

Sing: He gives strength to me, as I worship Him, as my heart is filled with praise.   Jesus breaks the bands, when I raise my hands, He gives glorious victory.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 23 May 2023

Stay Humble

“The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” (Proverbs 14:14)

Today’s Morsel: One of the first things that we ought to have learned when we became Christians was that it is no longer about us, it’s all about Jesus. If we start to think that it is about us and we have it our way, we are more than likely going to find ourselves frustrated, depressed, stressed, angered, and even worn out because of others’ actions, conduct, decorum, and lack of character. This is why we must do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before our God. Peter said that humility must be put on daily. Like the rest of the armor, it must be worn by you not in a prideful or arrogant state, but with lowliness of mind. Jesus says that the meek shall inherit the earth. Remember, the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. It all belongs to Him. Therefore, if we remain humble, and walk humbly before our God, we will have a portion of what is His. Remember, it’s not about you, it’s all about Jesus and Him crucified.

Sing: He is my everything, He is my all.  He is my everything, both great and small. He gave His life for me, made everything new. He is my everything, oh, how about you.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 22 May 2023

Let’s Get into Judah

“David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men. And David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me. And he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the hold. And the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.” (1 Samuel 22:1-5)

Today’s Morsel: Prior to David becoming the King of Israel, he found that people were starting to come to him for his help. Scripture says that all those who were distressed, in debt, and discontented, gathered themselves to him and he became a captain over them. There were about 400 of them. And David brought them to Moab, the city of his great, great, Grandmother Ruth for their protection.  But while there, he himself knew that he was still being hunted by Saul and that he needed to escape, or he could be killed as well as those who came to him. As Saul saw everyone that joined to David as being against him. And so, the prophet Gad told him that he needed to get into Judah. Judah means praise. Anytime that enemy is on your tracks, you need to get into praise. Anytime there are those under your leadership that are distressed, in debt, or discontented, you need to get into praise. Why? “Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.” (Psalms 50:23) Praise not only brings deliverance and salvation, but it also brings peace of mind.

Sing: Let’s praise, Let’s praise, Let’s praise the Lord; let’s praise, let’s praise, let’s praise the Lord; He brought me out and set me free, from this old world of misery. So, let’s praise, let’s praise the Lord.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 20 May 2023

The Step Between Life and Death

“And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death. Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.” (1 Samuel 20:3-4)

Today’s Morsel: Often, I don’t think that people realize that there is only one step between life and death. During wartimes, men have taken a step, stepped on a landmine and their life, as well as their friends’ lives, were taken. There have been soldiers who have taken a step and fallen into a punji pit, losing their lives. Men have taken a step and fallen off buildings, houses, and bridges, losing their lives. We never know what that next step will bring. David told Jonathan that there was only one step between him and death. He knew that if he made the wrong move and was not watchful, that Saul would kill him. Can you imagine living not know what your next step may bring? Many today are living their life filled with uncertainty, fear, and loneliness, because their lives are hidden from the gospel. Paul said that Satan has blinded their minds. They don’t think that there is any joy or happiness left for them in this life. Fear has gripped them and plagued them. But what they fail to realize is they are only one step away from joy, happiness, friendship, and newness of life. All they need to do is just take one step.  Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) All anyone needs to do is just take one step toward Him, and He will meet them and bring them a new life full of hope.  You don’t have to fear death, it has no power over you. God came to give us life and that more abundantly. But we must take the step to receive it. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.” (Acts 2:38-41) Why not take a step toward Jesus today and see what He will do for you.

Sing: I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed; step in, step in, step in and be blessed. Step in, step in, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed. I’m talking about favor, step in and be blessed; step in, step in, step in and be blessed. Step in, step in, step in and be blessed.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 19 May 2023

Who Told You?

“And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?” (Genesis 3:9-11)

Today’s Morsel: Prior to my coming into the church, my wife and I would have conversations at night about scripture, and I would ask her questions about truth and the church. But because she was a new convert, she did not yet know the answers. She would say to me, talk to the pastor. But I was reluctant. And I would say, no way am I going to do that. Well, as soon as we got to church the next night and the pastor started to preach, he would preach on the questions that I was asking my wife. I assumed that she was telling the pastor what we had talked about.  But after my salvation, I learned that this was not the case, but it was God answering my questions through the man of God. When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden fruit, they realized that they were naked. When God called for them, as He had before, they hid themselves from Him.  Adam told God that they were naked, and they hid themselves. To which God asked, “Who told you that you were naked?” You know, many people give up on their dreams and goals, because they often listen to others, or the voice of the devil telling them that they cannot, nor will they ever be able to meet their desires in life. If God doesn’t say that you can’t, then there is a very strong possibility that you can meet your desires. Paul said that he could do all things through Christ. And so can you. Let me encourage you. Don’t listen to naysayers. Success has ‘u’ in it.  Just keep listening to the Lord and following His voice.

Sing: I am promise, I am a possibility, I am a promise, with a capital P, I am a great big bundle of potentiality. And I am learning to hear God's voice, and I am trying to make the right choice. I am a promise to be anything He wants me to be.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 18 May 2023

The Image of God

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:26)

Today’s Morsel: Just what is the image of God, and how do we become more like Him? Paul states: “Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:” (Colossians 1:12-15) When we become born-again, we must start to become like Him. Our character and nature should be a total reflection of Christ, in word, action, conduct, and deeds. We know that the Fruit of the Spirit came with His Spirit, and they ought to be in us when we receive the Holy Ghost.  “...love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23) Our lives should reflect Christ through these attributes which came with His Spirit. Our behavior should also be a total reflection of His image. The way that we conduct ourselves, the places we go, and the things which we do, all ought to be a total reflection of Him. Peter said: “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:” (1 Peter 2:21-23) Notice, Jesus left us an example. That’s why excuses don’t work with God. He’s already shown us that the thing that He asks of us to do, that it can be done. If we say that we are His, then we ought not to be sinning and doing things that He did not do. Jesus did not sin, swear, lie, or curse. His words bought life. We can find all the excuses we want for sinning, but none of those excuses will make us become any more like Christ.  As a matter of fact, they will make you more like the devil. The world knows what the image of God is. But sad to say, the church doesn’t seem to know anymore.  Let’s draw closer to Him and reflect Him more.

Sing: To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, on earth I long to be like Him.  All through life’s journey, from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 17 May 2023

Hold On To Your First Victory

“And David took the head of the Philistine, and brought it to Jerusalem; but he put his armour in his tent.” (1 Samuel 17:54)

Today’s Morsel: What was the first victory that God performed through you over your enemy after you were anointed with the Holy Ghost? Scripture tells us that David took Goliath’s armor and put it in his tent. His sword, his helmet, his shield, his buckler, and his breastplate, were all kept by David. And we see that years later when Saul wanted to kill David, David found himself without a weapon, but when he inquired of the priest for a sword, he is told that the only one available was the one that he killed Goliath with (1 Samuel 21:9). You must never forget what God has done through you to defeat your enemy. More than likely, you will need it again. Let me encourage you, go back and reminisce on that first victory that God did for you over your enemy, and never forget it. Because some day, when the enemy is attacking you, and you are picking low cotton, you are going to need to recall it, so, that you will be encouraged and able to build yourself up again in the Lord.

Sing: When I look back over my life, and I think things over, I can truly say, that I’ve been blessed, I’ve got a testimony.

Watching The Word Work

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” (Isaiah 55:8-11)

Today’s Morsel: I like sitting back and watching God’s word work in the lives of men. This is why we are told that God will work if we let Him (Isaiah 43:13). When you pray and ask God for things, wait on Him, and let Him work. In other words, be still and learn/know that He is God. Scripture says: “And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.” (Matthew 8:5-13) Just speak the Word and my servant shall be healed. What confidence and faith in God’s ability to work. Does your faith align with the centurion? Praise reports and testimonies of God’s goodness shouldn’t surprise us. They ought to be common among us because we believe that His Word is quick and powerful and that it will accomplish and prosper in the things, He sends it to do.  Pray, believe, and watch Him work.

Sing: You are the God, that healeth me, You are the God my healer; You sent Your Word, and healed my disease, You are the Lord my healer.

The Holy Ghost

“And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.” (Acts 19:1-6)

Today’s Morsel: Have you received the Holy Ghost since you have believed? You know, there are a lot of believers in the world, but many of them have never received the Holy Ghost because some of them have never heard of the importance of the Holy Ghost for their life. And because some folks have never received it themselves, they tell people that it is of the devil, was for the apostles, or it was just for that time. Jesus told his disciples: “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you... “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:16-18, 26) Again, after his death, burial, and resurrection, Jesus told them: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) The Holy Ghost gives us the power and the authority to operate in the name of Jesus. Throughout the book of Acts (Acts 2:1-4, Acts 8:14-19, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 11:1-16, Acts 19:1-6), we see many that were filled with the Holy Ghost, and Peter said that this promise is for all. The New Testament Church is for the now. The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of God. It’s not the second or third person in the Godhead, it is God’s Spirit for you right now. And God wants His Spirit to be in you. As if any man, Paul said, have not the Spirit of Christ, He is none of His (Romans 8:9). Have you received the Holy Ghost since you have believed.  It is for you today.

Sing: I’ve got the Holy Ghost, down in my soul, just like the Bible said. I’ve got the Holy Ghost, down in my soul, just like the Bible said.  Well, I’ve been to the water, and I’ve been baptized in Jesus name, my soul got happy and I’m, so satisfied. I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now, just like the Bible, just like the Bible, just like the Bible said.

Perfect Will or Permissive Will

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2)

Today’s Morsel: Do you understand what the difference is between God’s perfect will and God’s permissive will? Let’s take a closer look at what Paul says here in verse 2. He lists three wills of God. First, there is a Good will of God. Next, there is an Acceptable will of God. And third, there is a Perfect will of God. First, let’s get the meaning of the three words. Good in scripture means: Worthy, moral, vitreous, and wholesome. Acceptable, means: Agreeable and well-pleasing. And Perfect means: Complete is mental and moral character, Whole. With this in mind, we should always desire God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will in our lives. But then there’s this thing called His permissive will. When something is permissive it means it is tolerated. We see this with the children of Israel. God was their king. But they wanted another king. God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will would have been for them to just retain Him as their king. But He tolerated them in rejecting Him for someone else. Which is seen as His permissive will. God knows what His good, acceptable, and His perfect will is for our lives, but He will not stop you if you want your own will to be done. God’s good, acceptable, and perfect will is that we obey His Word, but He will not stop you from rejecting it and doing your own thing.

Sing: Surely goodness, and mercy, shall follow me, all the days, all the days of my life.  Surely goodness, and mercy, shall follow me, all the days, all the days of my life. I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever, and I will feast at the table spread for me.  Surely goodness, and mercy, shall follow me, all the days, all the days of my life.

When God’s Word Doesn’t Make Sense

“Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.” (Proverbs 13:13)

Today’s Morsel: Sometimes, God’s word doesn’t seem to make sense to us when we read it. But we must love it and obey it as it is inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). God doesn’t always expect us to understand the things which He says in His word, He just expects us to love it and obey it. How many times have you heard that God’s ways aren’t our ways, and neither are His thoughts. Where many fall into trouble are they try to figure it out without taking it at face value. And because some folks don’t understand, they reject it, and miss out on what God would have done through them.  Jonah is a prime example. I often wonder what the story of Jonah would have read like if he had just obeyed and went and preached to Nineveh as God commanded him to do. But no! We read of him spending three days and three nights in the belly of a whale in the ocean, and then he goes and does what God told him to do in the first place. That seems crazy. We read about King Saul. What would his kingdom have been if he would have just obeyed and killed all the Amalekites as God’s word told him? God even told him why He wanted him to kill them all, but no, we read that his kingdom was rent from him and given to David because he rejected the word of God. As a child of God, you must not despise God’s word. It may not make sense to you when you read it or hear it. But you must learn to love it and obey it as it is for your example and good health.  Obedience is always better than sacrifice.

Sing: Let Jesus lead you, let Jesus lead you, let Jesus lead you all the way. All the way from earth to glory, let Jesus lead you all the way.

The Message

“This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)

Today’s Morsel: From Genesis to Revelation, one message rings true, God is light. It was what God created on Day One. It was what God called the day (Genesis 1:5). Light! It was what the apostle Paul called the children of God (1 Thessalonians 5:5), Light! And it was what the apostle of John called as the message. God is light! Again, John says: “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)” (1 John 1:1-2) From the creation of the world, this was the message for all to heed. This was the message for all to understand. The Word of life and the life was the light of men. For the life was manifested. “And without controversy, Paul said, great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.” (1 Timothy 3:16) God was revealed in flesh (John1:14), The light stepped into His creation in the body as a man to seek and to save that which was lost. As Jesus said: “Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12) Did you receive the message?

Sing: Light of the world You stepped down into darkness, opened my eyes made me see. Beauty that made this heart adore you, hope for a life spent with You.

Here I am to worship, here I am to bow down, here I am to say that You’re my God. You’re altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me.

Vivify

“This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.” (Psalms 119:50)

Today’s Morsel: The word vivify means to endow with life or renew life. Jesus said, “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10) We needed newness of life. When we are in our affliction; suffering, sickness, disease, difficulties, and problems we need to be revived. And this is where God’s word comes in. When we quote the word of God to ourselves it gives us life. As John said: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:1-4) The writer of Hebrews tells us: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) God’s word knows where the problem is, and it serves as an antidote to bring about healing and life. Don’t sit back and wait for the doctors to dope you up, have a little honey for what ails you. “How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalms 119:103)

Sing: There’s honey in the Rock for me, there’s honey in the Rock of me, there’s honey, honey, honey, there’s honey in the Rock for me.

The Increase

“Ye that fear the LORD, trust in the LORD: he is their help and their shield. The LORD hath been mindful of us: he will bless us; he will bless the house of Israel; he will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear the LORD, both small and great. The LORD shall increase you more and more, you and your children.” (Psalms 115:11-14)

Today’s Morsel: One of my favorite scriptures is 1 Corinthians 2:9, which says, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” As I sometimes sit and ponder my life, I can see the increase of blessings more and more that God keeps sending my way. Think with me for a moment if you will. Scripture says that God will increase you more and more. He will heap blessings upon you and your children.  Notice what wisdom says: “I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me. Riches and honour are with me; yea, durable riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment: That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance; and I will fill their treasures.” (Proverbs 8:17-21) Jesus Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. When we live and do what is right before God, the blessing faucet is turned on and the blessings flow our way. Moses admonished the children of Israel: “If thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which are written in this book of the law, and if thou turn unto the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul. For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? Neither is it beyond the sea, that thou shouldest say, Who shall go over the sea for us, and bring it unto us, that we may hear it, and do it? But the word is very nigh unto thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart, that thou mayest do it. See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it.” (Deuteronomy 30:10-16) Are you ready for the increase? Tell your children to get ready for their blessing!

Sing: My blessing is coming my way, it’s only a matter of time, until His purpose comes to pass, it’s only a matter of time. I’m waiting for my miracle, I’m waiting for my miracle, I’m waiting for my miracle, overtaken by a blessing.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 8 May 2023

The Lord Is on My Side

“The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?” (Psalms 118:6)

Today’s Morsel: The Psalmist lets us know that we have nothing to be afraid of, nor anything to fear because the Lord is on our side. As Moses told the children of Israel, the Lord is with thee where so ever thou mightiest go. The Lord will not leave thee nor forsake thee.  What can man do to you? What can any person do to you? They can do no more than God permits them to do. (Read the story of Job.) They cannot destroy us when God means to save us. They cannot defeat us when God attends for us to win. We are safe in God. We are more than conquerors. Again, the psalmist states: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.” (Psalms 91:1-4).  “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.” (Psalms 118:17) We must realize that with God on our side there is no chance of the enemy defeating and harming us. As Paul says: “What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) Keep holding to God’s unchanging hand and you will remain safe on His side.

Sing: Tell me whose side are you leaning on? Leaning on the Lord’s side. Tell me whose side are you leaning on? I’m leaning on the Lord's side. I lean, I lean, I lean, I lean; leaning on the Lord’s side. I lean, I lean, I lean, I lean, leaning, on the Lord’s side.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 6 May 2023

What Is God To You?

“The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.” (Psalms 18:2-3)

Today’s Morsel: If someone were to ask you why you serve the Lord, what would be your answer? I have come to realize that if you were to ask people this question, some cannot answer it. I find that many Christians when you asked them a question like this, they immediately either think that there is a catch, or you may be questioning their walk with God. I’m sure the disciples may have felt the same way when Jesus turned and asked them who did they think that He was one day.  Or maybe Peter thought that Jesus was kidding when He asked him three times if he loved Him? Jesus even asked the religious leaders, ‘What think ye of Christ, whose son is he?” There are just so many questions that Jesus posed, that some even got angry with him. Questions such as ‘What does Jesus mean to you’ ought not to anger you, rather you should be excited that someone notices that you are a Christian. And that you get to share why you love and serve Him.

Sing: He is my everything, He is my all. He is my everything, both great and small.  He gave his life for me, made everything new.  He is my everything, oh how about you?

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 5 May 2023

Prayerfulness

“Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” (Psalms 5:1-3)

Today’s Morsel: What do you think caused Daniel to get into a habit of praying three times a day. One thing I realize, being stationed in the Middle East, is that Muslims will pray three times a day. I have seen them drop in the airports and pray. Many airports in the world now have prayer rooms set aside for Muslims to go into to pray. When I once took Biman Airlines to Bangladesh to minister, before that plane backed away from the gate in Thailand, over the PA system they began to pray. Everyone on that airline was so kind and considerate of others it seemed after prayer. The attendant even offered me two meals for lunch if I wanted them. I thought to myself, ‘Wouldn’t it be wonderful if American Airlines would pray over their speaker system before takeoff?’  Maybe there would be less fighting and anger among passengers. Do you pray before you head off to work? Do you pray for others that you work with? Do you pray for your children before you send them off to school? We must be prayerful. David stated that God would hear his voice in the morning. And in the morning, he would direct his prayer to God. What time does God hear your voice in the morning? Is it with a prayer of thanksgiving for others and yourself? James said that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.  Let’s make prayer a habit in our lives.

Sing: Hear my cry O’ God, attend unto my prayer. From the ends of the earth will I cry unto Thee; and when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the Rock that is higher than I, so much higher than I.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 4 May 2023

Restoration Ought To Be Our Goal

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.” (Galatians 6:1-3)

Today’s Morsel: One of the major goals of the gospel is not only salvation, but also restoration. There are many lives that are out of course that need restoration.  Paul said that if we see a brother or sister overtaken in a fault, that we which are spiritual ought to do everything that we can to restore them. You see, the enemy of our soul is trying to turn our lives upside down. When we see men and women standing on the corner seeking handouts, the drug abusers on the street strung out on drugs, the alcoholic, and the parents who keep yelling after their children, these are all signs of those who need to be restored. There are many veterans, first responders, doctors, teachers, and children who are suffering from PTSD that need to be restored. And our goal ought to be to help them be restored back to Christ. Restored back to The One who can bring them back into alignment with His purpose for their lives and His. Remember, you were saved so that you could help restore others. As Jude says: “And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.” (Jude 1:22-23)

Sing:  I’m the man on the streets holding the sign, I know what it says but look in my eyes, I need more than money. I am the mother of three, I know how it looks, but please don’t condemn me, I need you to reach me, will you pray for me, will you speak to me? Be moved by compassion for me?

Help me I’m falling, does anybody hear me calling out? I’m calling out for help.  I’m in too deep to save myself for I’d save myself for I need someone to help me.

I’m the lawyer you met in the coffee shop, I know I seem fine but really, I’m not, my life is crashing. I’m the city you drive through on your way to work, can’t you hear my streets crying? Full of pain and hurt send me a preacher, will you reach to me? Please preach to me, there’s not much time.

Help me I’m falling, does anybody hear me calling out? I’m calling out for help.  I’m in too deep to save myself, for I’d save myself for I need someone to help me.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 3 May 2023

Joy Is A Choice

“Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalms 16:11)

Today’s Morsel: The word joy refers to the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune, and is typically associated with feelings of intense, long-lasting happiness.  But if we are not careful, we can make joy a choice when it ought to be a way of life. Joy came with the Holy Ghost when we were born-again. Isaiah states that with joy we can draw waters out of the wells of salvation. David said that in His presence is fullness of joy. If we stay in God’s presence, our joy should remain complete.  As Christians, our lives ought to never be depleted or lacking anything that came with the Holy Ghost. These things, which we call the fruit of the Spirit, ought to be evident to others when they see us. Don’t make love, joy, peace, and these things, a choice. Make them a way of life.

Sing: I get joy when I think about, what He’s done for me.  I get joy when I think about, what He’s done for me. I get joy when I think about, what He’s done for me, I get joy, joy, joy, joy.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2 May 2023

How’s Your Soul?

“O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee: Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry; For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.” (Psalms 88:1-3)

Today’s Morsel: I don’t think that there is a day that goes by that I don’t hear of bad news.  Sometimes I want to sing with those guys on HEE HAW that sang, “Gloom, despair, and agony on me.”  You know this flesh is going to fail us and even fade away. That is why it is of utmost importance that our soul is well fed and maintained.  Many people suffer from depression, pain, agony, discomfort, and even hopelessness, sadness, and unhappiness. But if they would ensure that their soul is maintained, they could retain their joy and peace no matter what comes their way. The psalms state, “For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.” Yes, many things will come against us, and the enemy will do his very best to discourage our soul. This is one of the reasons that you must be proactive as a child of God. You must not be reactive. You cannot wait until you are attacked to praise God and seek Him for help. You must make it a habit of always praising Him, reading your Bible, and attending church, so that your soul will be well maintained and ready for any attack. Be like David when he said: “I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.” (Psalms 34:1-3) Don’t let your soul grow dry and become weary.

Sing: My soul says yes, to the Lord, my soul says yes, to Lord, for He’s a great King, He’s doing great things.  My soul says yes, yes, yes, to the Lord.

Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 1 May 2023

A Free Estimate

“A Psalm of David. LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.” (Psalms 15:1-5)

Today’s Morsel: Have you ever gotten one of those letters in the mail telling you that you can receive a free estimate of certain repairs that you may need to your home, car, windows and door, or lawn?  What if you could get a free estimate of where you stand with Christ? Would you be willing to call for an appointment if you could get one? Well, there are many people offering you just that. It’s called a ‘Search for Truth Bible Study’. When you are enlightened by the word of God, you will be able to see where you really stand with God. There is nothing hidden. You will be able to see exactly what repairs you need to have done in your life. You will be able to determine if you are saved or lost. You can determine if you are truly walking with God, or if you have been deceived. A Bible study costs you nothing. It should be one of those free estimates that you desire to have done immediately so that you can get your house in order before the storms of life start blowing your way.

Sing: There’s a storm out on the ocean, and it’s moving this away.  If your soul's not, anchored in Jesus, you will surely drift away.
