Dreams
“But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams” (Acts 2:16-17)
Today’s Morsel: Have you ever had one of those good dreams that is so
good, and just as you are reaching the climax, you wake up, and now you have no
clue what the ending will be? We see in scripture that some men had dreams and
they were troubling them. I often laugh at Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. He can’t
figure his dream out, and it is troubling to him. He calls the astrologers,
soothsayers, and magicians, and tells them if they can’t tell him his dream and
what it means, he is going to have them all killed. They tell him to tell them
the dream and they may be able to tell him the answer. But he can’t remember
the dream, so, he gives them a time to come up with the dream and the answer,
or they will be killed. What a bold request. They tell him no one can do that.
Tell someone their dream and the answer. But it didn’t change the king's
demand. But thank God for Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who
sought God and came up with the answers to save lives (Daniel 2). Peter states
that your old men shall dream dreams. Though prophecies, dreams, and visions were the usual ways of conveying knowledge in olden times, Joel
had signified that the knowledge of men in gospel times
should be equal to, or exceed, whatever was communicated to men in the highest degree in
former times
(Joel 2:28). God still uses men through dreams to relay His message of truth.
Yet you must ensure that the dream is from the Lord and not from man. As Moses
admonished the children of Israel “If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth
thee a sign or a wonder, And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he
spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known,
and let us serve them; Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet,
or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether
ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Ye shall
walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey
his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. And that prophet, or
that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God, which brought you
out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to
thrust thee out of the way which the LORD thy God commanded thee to walk in. So
shalt thou put the evil away from the midst of thee.” (Deuteronomy 13:1-5) Any dream that goes against God’s word
must be avoided.
Sing: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full
in His wonderful face and the things of earth will go strangely dim, in the
light of His glory and grace.

come true, if we have the courage to pursue them (Walt Disney)
