Prosperity
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in
health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 1:2)
Today’s Morsel: Would you say that
you are prospering or standing still? There are some churches that even preach
a doctrine of prosperity. But that is not what John means here. Notice what he
says. “I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health,
even as thy soul prospereth.” The latter part of the verse is key, as thy
soul prospereth. The only way you can prosper is if your soul prospers. Jesus
asked, “For what is a man profited, if he
shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in
exchange for his soul?” (Matthew
16:26)
A nonprosperous soul is seen in those who are depressed, stressed, despondent,
with low self-esteem, disheartened, and sad. These things usually lead to poor
health and they dim the vision of the joy, peace, and success Jesus offers us.
The Lord told Joshua: “This book of
the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day
and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written
therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have
good success.”
(Joshua 1:8) If you will keep the word fresh in your
soul, you will prosper and be in good health.
Sing: Though the storms keep on raging in my
life, and sometimes it hard to tell the night from day, still there lies a hope
within that is reassured, as I keep my eyes upon the distant shores, I know
He’ll lead me safely to, that blessed place, He has prepared; and if the storms
don’t cease, and if the wind keeps on blowing in my life, my soul has been
anchored in the Lord.
Thought For Today: Better eat your
manna.
