The Day of The Lord
“Woe unto you that desire the day of the LORD! to what end is it for
you? the day of the LORD is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from
a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the
wall, and a serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the LORD be darkness, and not
light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?” (Amos 5:18-20)
Today’s
Morsel: How sure are you of your salvation? Have you made
the list of requirements to
enter that heavenly land? Have you made the list and checked it twice to make sure you have not been naughty but nice?
Okay, not Christmas (Humor). Amos says that the day of the Lord will be darkness and not
light. It will bring on affliction, calamities, miseries, and
distress, which are often in scripture expressed as "darkness", and not prosperity and happiness, which
are sometimes signified as "light. Paul
states: “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural
affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of
those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than
lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from
such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive
silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and
never able to come to the knowledge of the truth” (2 Timothy 3:1-7); “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall
depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of
devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot
iron; Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath
created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the
truth. For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be
received with thanksgiving: For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.” (1 Timothy 4:1-5) Are we now living in the day of the Lord? : “But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake
you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day:
we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do
others; but let us watch and be sober.” (1 Thessalonians 5:4-6) Don’t be found sleeping. Make
sure of your salvation.
Sing: For me, for me, for me, there’s a
mansion there for me, in glory land so bright and fair, where the victor's
crown I soon shall wear. Come, and go with me, for I won’t be back you
see. If anybody’s gonna be happy over there it’s me, me, me, me, me.
