Virtue
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to
virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and
to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly
kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that
ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ.”
(2 Peter 1:5-8)
Today’s Morsel: What is faith
without virtue? What is the use of faith in God if we are not going to
live a morally good and righteous lifestyle? If our behavior is not
showing a higher moral standard of godliness what is the use? If we say
that we have faith in God, then our conduct and character must reflect that
belief. All sinners know that a Christian lifestyle is to be different from
theirs. In all of Paul’s letters to the churches, he is sounding an
alarm. You cannot be a Christian and a sinner at the same time. You
cannot serve God and Satan simultaneously. Nor can you have God in your
life and a devil at the same time. We must develop virtue in our
lives so that we do not come short in our knowledge of Christ and fall.
Sing: Deeper! Deeper! In the Love of
Jesus, daily let me go. Higher, higher, in the school of wisdom, more of
grace to know.
Thought For Today:
You are going to need courage and fortitude, to enable you to profess the
faith before men in these times of persecution.
