Does It Pay To Pray?
“And Hezekiah received the letter of the hand of the messengers, and
read it: and Hezekiah went up into the house of the LORD, and spread it before
the LORD. And Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said, O LORD God of Israel,
which dwellest between the cherubims, thou
art the God, even thou alone, of all the
kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made heaven and earth. LORD, bow down thine
ear, and hear: open, LORD, thine eyes, and see: and hear the words of
Sennacherib, which hath sent him to reproach the living God. Of a truth, LORD,
the kings of Assyria have destroyed the nations and their lands, And have cast
their gods into the fire: for they were no
gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have
destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, I beseech thee, save thou us out
of his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD God, even
thou only. Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the
LORD God of Israel, That which thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king
of Assyria I have heard.” (2 Kings
19:14-20)
Today’s
Morsel: One of the things about prayer is it must become a
habit for the Christian and something that we all love to do. Prayer must be a
joy for the Christian knowing that you are in dialog with your heavenly Father.
Does it pay to pray? Someone asked if God already knows what we need before we
ask Him, then why ask? The answer is simple. I may know what you need but
because of your own free will, you may not want what I desire to give you. And
God operates the same way. Jesus simply says that you have not because you ask
not. If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. Does it pay
to pray? Ask Hezekiah. Ask Nehemiah. Ask Daniel. Ask the church at Mary’s
house, the mother John Mark who was interceding for Peter in Acts 12:12. Ask
Paul and Silas. You can ask me if you’d like. I am a living witness that it
does pay to pray. “If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children,
how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them
that ask him?”
(Matthew 7:11) Give it a try and you will
learn it does pay to pray.
Sing: There was a time on earth when in the
book of heaven, an old account was standing for sins yet unforgiven. My
name was at the top and many things below, I went unto the keeper and settled
it long ago.
Long ago, down on my knees; long ago I settled it all.
Yes, the old account was settled long ago. And my records clear today
because He washed my sins away, and the old account was settled long ago.
Thought For
Today: “Confess your
faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.
The effectual
fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” (James 5:16)
