The Supreme Virtue
“And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to
virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and
to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly
kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that
ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus
Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and
hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather,
brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do
these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto
you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus
Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-11)
Today’s Morsel: From the creation of
man, we see that the supreme virtue that God has put into place is that of
obedience. And that thread runs throughout the entire Bible. The laws, status,
and commandments require obedience. If we are planning to see Christ and reign
with Him forever, then we must obey Him and His word. Forgiveness of others,
being ethical, living holy, and living out the gospel in our lives, all require
obedience. Jesus said, “So likewise
ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We
are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.” (Luke 17:10) Obedience should be our watchword.
Sing: Trust and obey, for there is no other
way, to be happy in Jesus than to trust and obey.
Thought For Today: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to
obey God rather than men.”
(Acts 5:29)
