Following The Crowd
“And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of
him a king. And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign
over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his
chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. And
he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will
set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his
instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. And he will take your
daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. And he will
take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of
them, and give them to his servants. And he will take the tenth of your seed,
and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. And he
will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young
men, and your asses, and put them to his work. He will take the tenth of your
sheep: and ye shall be his servants. And ye shall cry out in that day because
of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in
that day. Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they
said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; That we also may be like all the
nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our
battles.”
(1 Samuel 8:10-20)
Today’s Morsel: I find it appalling
that some people, and even some so-called Christians, are just following the
crowd. They have no clue what they are voting for, nor the people that they are
voting for to occupy political offices or to lead and rule over them
spiritually. Moses told the children of Israel, “Thou shalt not raise a false
report: put not thine hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. Thou
shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to
decline after many to wrest judgment” (Exodus 23:1-2) But today, we see
many that are just following the crowd to do evil. Israel rejected God for a
human king to reign over them. Even though God told them what that king would
do to them, they still rejected God for him, and we see the results even today.
What we see taking place in every nation is the result of a rejection of God
for a human leader. May I suggest that you do not just follow the crowd, but
rather that you heed the advice of the apostle Paul and work out your own
salvation with fear and trembling.
Sing: Jesus got a hold of my life, and He
won’t let me go. Jesus got into my heart, He got into my soul. I used to
be oh so sad, but now I’m happy free and I'm glad; cause Jesus got ahold of my
life, and He won’t let me go.
Thought For Today: Take heed to thy self
that thou be not ensnared by the crowd.
