Deeply Rooted
“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope
the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that
spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but
her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought,
neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:7-8)
Today’s Morsel: How
deep are your roots in Christ? Are you troubled when things go awry in your
life? Do you get upset at people easily? Do you have a lack of compassion for
those who left the church and are now suffering because of their decision? If
so, then your roots may not be deep enough. A heart of compassion shows that
your roots are deep in Christ. The suffering of others pulls at the very core
of your heart as it did Jesus. When we as believers have our roots deeply
established in Christ, trials, troubles, and what others do, don’t move us. We
remain the same. Just like Jesus, we are the same yesterday, today, and
forever. Paul told the church at Ephesus that he was praying for them, that Christ may dwell in their hearts by faith; that they, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to
comprehend with all saints what is the
breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ,
which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:14-19) Your
love toward others reveals your root system. Are you rooted in love?
Sing: Deeper,
deeper blessed Holy Spirit, take me deeper still. Till my life is wholly
lost in Jesus, and His perfect will.
O’ deeper yet, I pray,
and higher every day, and wiser blessed Lord, in Thy precious holy word.
Thought For Today: “They
on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and
these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall
away.” (Luke 8:13)
