Education
“Till
I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. Neglect not
the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on
of the hands of the presbytery. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly
to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto
the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself,
and them that hear thee.”
(1 Timothy 4:13-16)
Today’s Morsel: Somewhere
our education system has failed. When I went to school, education was not about
making a living, it was about making a person. From 1st grade
to 8th grade, we began our school day with devotion, prayer,
singing, and the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Those first 8 years taught
us manners, health, morals, respect for ourselves and others, integrity,
reading, writing, and arithmetic. It wasn’t until high school that we learned
how to start a career and how to make a living. But not before the basic needs
in life were enforced. Paul told Timothy to study the word of God because it
would make him a godly person. Peter told the church that they should give "all diligence, and add to your faith virtue...” (2 Peter 1:5-11) Why? Because virtue is no
more than morality, honesty, integrity, and goodness. Because if a person does
not have it they are going to fall. Jesus, Peter said, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all
things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge
of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Peter 1:3). God is holy,
righteous, and true, therefore we must be as He is. “And ye fathers,
provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and
admonition of the Lord” Paul said (Ephesians 6:4)
Sing: Deeper,
deeper, in the blessed Holy Spirit, Take me deeper still. Till my life is
wholly lost in Jesus and his perfect will.
O’ deeper yet I pray, and
higher every day, and wiser blessed Lord in Thy precious holy word.
Thought For Today: “Train
up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from
it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
