Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 27 September 2021

 Don't Play With God

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye? And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified. And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.(Acts 19:13-20)

Today’s Morsel:  One of the things about serving God is that you must be serious and sincere, or the devil will take you out. When you become a Christian you are entering warfare.  This isn’t an "I will be a Christian on Sunday morning, Easter, and Christmas, and live any way I want to on other days."  When you say that you are a Christian, other people are depending on you to do the right thing all the time.  They are trusting you to have their back in prayer, that you are supportive of them in their needs and mission, ensuring that you tell them when they are wrong, and reward them when they do right.  Scripture says, “Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.”  Why didn’t they say, Jesus whom we preach?  That was a giveaway to the devil that these men were powerless against them.  Anytime you must get permission to pray against evil or evoke someone else’s name, who do you think is more spiritual than you to evict demons, then stay away from people whom you think are possessed with demons or you may find yourself like these men, beaten and scared.  But if you are a true Christian, you have the power to run the devil out of town every time.  Yes, being a Christian is a 24/7 real-deal calling.  And what a joy it is.

Sing:  There is power in the name of Jesus, there is power in the name of Jesus, there is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain, break every chain, break every chain, break every chain.

Thought For Today:Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.(Luke 10:19)
