When God Is Not Recognized
“And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his
throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It
is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord
smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and
gave up the ghost.”
(Acts 12:21-23)
Today’s Morsel: Throughout
scripture, we see what happens when men do not recognize God for who He is and
what He instructs them to do. When Moses told Pharaoh that God said to
let his people go, Pharaoh hardened his heart and would not obey, saying,
"I know not the Lord." But he soon found out who God was.
Even today, there are many who do not recognize God as being God and for the
things that are taking place in the world. They call natural disasters,
flooding, earthquakes, and wildfires a result of global warming. They
fail to recognize God as The One who controls the universe. The news
reported a few weeks ago of a bolt of lightning striking a mural of Geoge Floyd
on the side of a wall destroying the entire outer wall of the building, and yet
man refuses to recognize God. Martin Bucer says, “Where God is not
recognized and obedience to Him is not required before all things, there peace
is not peace; And justice is not justice, and that which should be profitable
brings injury instead.” Scripture says that Herod was killed and eaten by
worms because he did not give God the glory. What a terrible way to die.
Those who submit patiently to the privileges of God’s
providence He will lift up; those who lift themselves up, God thrusts
down. If we humble not ourselves under God’s grace, He will humble
us under His judgments. Those who patiently submit to Him, He exalts in
due time; if His hand be mighty to depress, it is also mighty to
exalt. Remember,
if any good thing is done in our lives, we must give God the glory and not
ourselves. To God be all glory, for He alone does great
things.
Sing: You deserve the glory, and the honor,
Lord we lift our hands in worship, as we magnify Your name. You deserve
the glory, and the honor, Lord we lift our hands in worship, as we magnify Your
name. For You are great, You do miracles so great, there is no one else
like You, there is no one else like You. For You are great, You do
miracles so great, there is no one else like You, there is no one else like
You!
Thought For Today: “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may
exalt you in due time”
(1 Peter 5:6)
