The Gift Of God
“When therefore the
Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more
disciples than John, (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) He
left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee. And he must needs go through
Samaria. Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to
the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob's well was
there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well:
and it was about the sixth hour. There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water:
Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. (For his disciples were gone away unto
the city to buy meat.) Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that
thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the
Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. Jesus answered and said unto her, If
thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to
drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living
water.” (John 4:1-10)
Today’s Morsel: Have you
received God’s gift? One of the gifts that God gives to us is the gift of
grace. Scripture tells us: “But not as the
offence, so also is the free gift.
For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and
the gift by grace, which is by one
man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many” (Romans 5:15);
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath
appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts,
we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking
for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our
Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all
iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works” (Titus 2:11-14);
“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of
grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:16),
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even
when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye
are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in
heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the
exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God” (Ephesians 2:4-8) Grace is God’s gift to us. It is
God’s divine influence in your life. Yes, there are spiritual gifts, but
those gifts come with His Spirit, the gift of the Holy Ghost (1 Corinthians
12:8-11). But salvation by
grace is His gift. It is not of merit. It cannot be earned. It
is given freely. And you can have this wonderful gift today.
Sing: Grace, grace, God’s grace, grace that
will pardon and cleanse within. Grace, grace, God’s grace, grace that is
greater than all our sin.
Thought For Today: Only God’s
grace brings with it salvation.
