Edification
“Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” (Romans 14:19)
Today’s Morsel: The word “edify” means to build up in communicating with others. We Christians are called to use our speech to build people up instead of tearing them down. We are to minister grace to one another by conveying kindness, mercy, and love. What do you do each day to edify others? The month of December seems to be the month that many find themselves stressed, depressed, lonely, homesick, and even downright bored. One would think that the month of December would be a month that folks would be filled with joy, peace, love, hope, and excitement. But for some folks it seems to wreck their entire month. I don’t know why since Jesus came to give us life and that more abundantly. So, now that you have that little bit of information, what are you going to do daily to edify others? Paul said, “Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.” Just what are some of the things that you can do to edify others? Well first, edification must begin with yourself. If you do not edify yourself daily, the likelihood of you edifying someone else isn’t going to happen. But once you edify yourself, then you can build up others. You can tell your kids what a great job they did with their schoolwork and cleaning their room. You can thank your spouse for the things that they do around the house each day. You can thank your pastor and his wife (if married) for caring for you. You can thank the cashiers for coming to work to take care of you. You can turn negative situations into peace and forgiveness. Again, Paul tell us, “Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11) The way to express edification is to remember the “Golden Rule.” Simply do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. Have fun this month applying that!
Sing: I get joy, joy, joy, when I think about the Lord, when I’m standing in His presence, I say give me more and more. Well, it starts in my hands, and it moves down to my feet. I’ve got His joy, joy, all over me.
