Are You Able to Handle Afflictions?
“Now there arose up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Joseph. And he
said unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we: Come on, let us deal
wisely with them; lest they multiply, and it come to pass, that, when there
falleth out any war, they join also unto our enemies, and fight against us, and
so get them up out of the land. Therefore
they did set over them taskmasters to afflict them with their burdens. And they
built for Pharaoh treasure cities, Pithom and Raamses. But the more they
afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved
because of the children of Israel.” (Exodus 1:8-12)
Today’s Morsel: As we enter these
last days, I find that many folks cannot handle afflictions. It is as though
they have lived thinking that everything was going to be on easy street. I’m
not being negative nor judgmental, but it is if though many in the church have
never read nor heard the word of God. Paul told Timothy that he must learn to
endure hardness as a good soldier and to teach the same to others (2 Timothy
2:1-4). Solomon states that if we faint in the day of adversity then our
strength is small (Proverbs 24:10) These illnesses, troubles, and hardship
should not stop you, but propel you to do greater things. They are only for a
moment. You have all the promises from God that He will be with you. Scripture
says that the more the children of Israel were afflicted, the more they multiplied and grew. Afflictions can only stop you if you
let them. So, are you going to quit or grow? The choice is always
ours, God gave us that choice..
Sing: He gives strength to me, as I worship
Him, as my heart is filled with praise. Jesus breaks the bands, as I
raise my hands, He gives glorious victory.
Thought
For Today: “This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened
me.” (Psalms 119:50)
