The Moving of The Reproach
“And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach
of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto
this day.”
(Joshua 5:9)
Today’s Morsel: Israel had lived
under the bondage of Egypt for over 400 years. Then God delivered them, and
they spent the next 4o years wandering in the wilderness because of unbelief.
All the prior generation of Israelites which had failed to believe and obey was
now no longer alive. This new generation under Joshau’s leadership seems to be
ready to listen and to obey God. They have been washed, circumcised, and
sanctified. And now, under Joshua's leadership, God tells him that he will now remove
the reproach of Egypt from them. God would now remove the fear, the reproach of being bondmen, and slaves, as they were in Egypt, having
now entered upon their inheritance, they were now as free men.
All the disappointments, failures, setbacks, anger, and displeasures that God
had found in them He would now take away. Isn’t that just like our loving
God? He's not willing that any should perish but that all would come to
repentance. Even if you are reproached for being a Christian, and it seems that
all hell is coming against you, hang in there, God will remove your reproach.
Sing: I came to Jesus weary, worn and sad,
He took my sins away, He took my sins away. And now on Him I roll my
every care, He took my sins away.
Thought For Today: “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)
