Get Your Heart Right
“So king Rehoboam strengthened himself in Jerusalem, and reigned: for Rehoboam was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the LORD had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there. And his mother's name was Naamah an Ammonitess. And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD.” (2 Chronicles 12:13-14)
Today’s Morsel: Throughout scripture, God’s people are told to
guard their heart. It’s not talking about that piece of flesh in your chest,
it’s talking about your mind, your center of life, your intellect. As the
heart is deceitful (Jeremiah
17:9), our heart can fail us (Psalms 73:26), our heart can sometimes be filled with pain (Psalms 55:4), The heart can
be sorrowful (Proverbs 14:13), the heart is sick (Proverbs 13:12), and the heart
of a man is haughty (Proverbs 18:12). Therefore, Solomon tells us to not lean unto our own understanding. Scripture
says of King
Rehoboam, “And it came to pass,
when Rehoboam had established the kingdom, and had strengthened himself, he
forsook the law of the LORD, and all Israel with him.” (2 Chronicles 12:1) He did evil, because he did not prepare his heart
to seek the Lord. And thus, God gave them up into captivity. Don’t ever think that
you don’t need God. You can keep your heart right if you seek the Lord for His
wisdom, discretion, and instructions. You don’t want your enemy to have
dominion over you. Keep your heart right before God.
Sing: Seek
ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall
be added unto you, hallelu, hallelujah!
Thought For Today: “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon
him while he is near:” (Isaiah
55:6)
