Shiloh
“Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here
am I. And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray
thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any
thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee. And Samuel told him
every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do
what seemeth him good. And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let
none of his words fall to the ground. And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba
knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD. And the LORD
appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by
the word of the LORD.”
(1 Samuel 3:16-21)
Today’s Morsel: The name Shiloh is a Hebrew word meaning
tranquil or an epithet of the Messiah. According to Wikipedia, Shiloh was an ancient city and sanctuary in Samaria.
According to the Hebrew Bible, Shiloh was the central sanctuary of the
Israelites during the pre-monarchic period, before the first
temple in Jerusalem was built. After the Israelite conquest of
Canaan, the tabernacle was moved to Shiloh, and remained there during
the period of the Biblical Judges. Scripture says that it was here
that God appeared to Samuel and revealed himself to him by the word of the
Lord. 99.9%
of the time, God will not appear to you in physical form. He will appear to you
and reveal Himself to you by His word. John opens his gospel by telling us: In the beginning was the Word, and
the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word was made flesh, and
dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of
the Father,) full of grace and truth.”(John 1:1,
14) When John the Baptist sent his disciples to ask of Jesus if
He was the one or should they look for another. “Then
Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have
seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed,
the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. And
blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.” (Luke 7:22-23) The
revelation of truth is always revealed by truth. The word of God. “I will worship toward thy holy temple and praise thy name for thy
lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all
thy name.”
(Psalms 138:2) If you want to know who Jesus is, look
in the word. “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the
Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” (1 John 5:7)
Sing: He touched me, oh, oh, He touched me,
and oh the joy that floods my soul. Something happened and now I know, He
touched me, and made me whole.
Thought For Today: “But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which
by the gospel is preached unto you.” (1 Peter 1:25)
