Overcoming Discouragement
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”
(Psalms 42:5)
Today’s Morsel: To overcome discouragement and hardships; we must
learn how to motivate ourselves. There are too many Christians that do not know how to motivate themselves. Paul
tells us, “And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with
the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord” (Ephesians 5:18-19) What is your
favorite spiritual song? Whatever it is, sing it to yourself when you are
picking low cotton. Most of the so-called “Negro Spiritual” songs that were
once sung in the church were birthed out of discouragement during slavery.
People needed a self-motivator, and they knew that singing to God would give
them joy and relief. David talked to himself. “O God, my heart is fixed; I will sing and give
praise, even with my glory. Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will
awake early.” (Psalms
108:1-2) He even asked his soul why it was cast down. You have the
power within you to get up and be joyful. Remember, the Holy Ghost came
with joy. You can either sit and be sad and brokenhearted, or you can do
what Paul told Timothy, “Wherefore
I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee
by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear;
but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:6-7) You are only crazy
if you sit there and do nothing about your own discouragement. Don’t let
Covid and others depress and discourage you. Get up and go to church and
spend time with Jesus. He is still the answer for the world today.
Sing: Jesus is the answer for the
world today, without Him there’s no other, Jesus is the way. Jesus
is the answer for the world today, without him there’s no other, Jesus is the
way.
Thought For Today:
Self-motivation… Motivating yourself.
