 Veteran’s Day

But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings; By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Ghost, by love unfeigned, By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true; As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed; As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.(2 Corinthians 6:4-10)

Today’s Morsel:  Across America today and around the world, we celebrate Veteran's Day.  It is giving honor to those who have served their country in defense of its freedom.  America has become a great nation because of its defenders, its military men and women.  This day is not to be confused with the other military holidays such as Memorial Day or Armed Forces Day.  Memorial Day honors those who paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their life during their time in service while in uniform and Armed Forces Day honors all those who are currently serving on active duty. Veteran’s Day honors those who have served but are no longer in uniform.  It is these, as well as the others that must not be forgotten because freedom is not free.  As President Calvin Coolidge stated: “The country that forgets its defenders, will itself be forgotten.”   Many of these veterans are unknown, but most of them are well known.  They are your husband, wife, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters, pastors, counselors, teachers, firemen, policemen, senators, congressmen, next-door neighbors.  They are the cashier at the checkout, the greeters and ushers at the church door, the mechanics who work on your vehicles, the doctor who operates on you, an employer who hires you, salesmen who help you with a purchase, the flight attendant on your plane, the pilot who is flying the plane you are flying on, and the nurse that takes your temperature.  Unknown, and yet well known.  If you know who they are, then take the time to thank them for your freedom.  Because freedom is not free.

Sing:  Thanks, Thanks, I give you thanks, for all you have done.  I am so blessed, my soul has found rest; Oh Lord, I give You thanks.

Thought For Today:  Freedom is not free!
