Truth Hurts
“Ye stiffnecked and
uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your
fathers did, so do ye. Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted?
and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of
whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by
the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. When they heard these things,
they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.” (Acts
7:51-54)
Today’s Morsel: Stephen, who was chosen to serve widows and wait tables, found
himself having to defend his faith in Christ. But because he presented
the truth harshly,
I believe, to those who were guilty, it cut them to their heart, and they were livid and killed him.
Truth always hurts the guilty. Paul tells us to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Why,
because it hurts those who are guilty. This word is like a two-edged
sword, the writer of Hebrews tells us (Hebrews 4:12). People know that they are sinners and doing wrong. That’s
why we must not be too harsh and critical because such were some of us, and it hurts.
Jesus said that we must always make sure that the larger beam isn’t in our eye. Remember, your job is to make
people free, not push
them further in bondage. As Jude said, “ And of some have
compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment
spotted by the flesh.”
(Jude 1:22-23) I believe that the gospel has a
whole lot of compassion, grace, and mercy wrapped up in it, don’t you?
Share it with love.
Sing: What can wash away
my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole
again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus. Oh, precious is the
flow. That makes me white as snow. No other fount I know, nothing
but the blood of Jesus.
