Lending To God
“And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go
unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a
friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before
him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now
shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. I say
unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet
because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.” (Luke 11:5-8)
Today’s Morsel: What would you do if
God knocked on your door and asked if you would lend him a cup of sugar or a
cup of flour? Would you be willing if he were dressed like the wanderer
on the corner or perhaps looked like John the Baptist? The writer of Hebrews
tells us, “Let brotherly love continue. Be not forgetful to
entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:1-2) We
never know if the person who is asking is an angel or maybe God Himself. Jesus
said, “Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy
goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also
to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for
sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good
to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend
to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend
to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good,
and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye
shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to
the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.” (Luke
6:30-36) The heart of a true cross bearer is compassion. When you
have done it unto the least, you have done it unto me, Jesus said.
Sing: Give and it shall be
given, good measure, pressed down shaken together and runneth over. Give,
and it shall be given, when you give you give to the Lord.
Thought For Today: “He that hath pity
upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay
him again.” (Proverbs 19:17)
