Wicked Treasures
“Treasures
of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.” (Proverbs 10:2)
Today’s Morsel:
Teaching what we call the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus tells us, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where
moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21) Worldly treasure
does nothing but create hardship in the end. They say that if you have
not removed all your earthly treasure and everything out of your name when you
become elderly and may need to go into a nursing home or some other facility
for medical assistance, the system will take away everything that you own if it
was not removed from your name and ownership transferred a certain number of
years prior. Thus, there goes your earthly treasures. Solomon
states that the treasures of wickedness profit nothing. Any treasure
obtained through wicked methods and means is not going to last. Treasure
obtained by wickedness usually destroys its owner. Elisha’s servant
Gehazi became a leper for the rest of his life because he lied to Naaman to
obtain treasure by wicked methods. Jesus asked, “For what is a man
profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what
shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26) What is your
soul worth to you?
Sing:
Time if filled with swift transition, naught of earth unmoved can stand; build
your hope on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand!
Hold to God’s unchanging
hand! Hold to God’s unchanging hand! Build your hopes on things
eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Thought For Today: Do
not let the world rob you of your crown.
