Silence Please
“A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner
heareth not rebuke. A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the
soul of the transgressors shall eat violence. He that keepeth his mouth keepeth
his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.”
(Proverbs 13:1-3)
Today’s Morsel:
One of the things with active listening is that you must know when to speak and
when to keep quiet. It is sometimes hard, especially when you know when
someone else is talking and what they are saying is not true. But Solomon
states, “Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto
him.” (Proverbs 26:4) Sometimes
a fool or wicked person is
not to be answered at all. We see this with Jesus toward the Pharisees and
Sadducees. Peter admonishes us, “Finally, be ye all
of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing;
knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.” (1 Peter 3:8-9) We must not use
and return ill language to those who have
given it, but we should rather imitate Christ, who, when He was reviled,
reviled not again. Sometimes you may just need to keep silent. It just
might save your life or prevent you from being the one who looks foolish.
Sing: To
be like Jesus, to be like Jesus, on earth I long to be like Him. All
through life’s journey, from earth to glory, I only ask to be like Him.
Thought For Today: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be
swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath” (James 1:19)
Yes indeed, I've learned that stupidity doesn't always need a response. Could you do a little teaching on "quit you like men"?
