Spiritual Wells

“Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.” (John 4:10-15)

Today’s Morsel:  The story of Jesus meeting the woman of Samaria at the well is a great story for teaching many things. There have been messages preached from this story against racism; about receiving the Holy Ghost; about deeper things in life; about soul winning; about the importance of those won to Christ reaching others; the importance of drinking water out of your own well; and that here was a well sitting on a well.  No matter the message, the story is clear, people are trying to satisfy their thirst and need by wrong means and methods.  If you really want to quench your spiritual thirst, then you must drink from the right well.  The Lord says, “If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (John 7:37-39)  Your spiritual needs can be met if you will draw from the right well, which is Jesus Christ.

Sing:  I thirsted in a barren land of sin and shame, and nothing satisfying there I found.  But to the precious cross of Christ one day I came, where springs of living waters did abound.

Drinking at the springs of living waters, happy now am I, my soul they satisfy.  Drinking at the springs of living waters, a wonderful and bountiful supply.

Thought For Today:  Only Jesus can satisfy your soul!
