Silence is Golden
“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” (Proverbs 17:28)
Today’s Morsel: They say that silence is golden. If that be the case, then not too many people can be arrested for hoarding it. Some folks are like an old refrigerator, they can’t keep anything. Throughout scripture, we are cautioned to bridle our tongue as life and death are in it. James even tells us: “Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” (James 3:5-10) He further cautions: “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20) This little member of the body must be disciplined so that it does not cause you or someone else hardship. If you desire to show others that you are a man or woman with Godly understanding, then you must learn when to speak and when to keep silent.
Sing: I’m going to clean up, what I messed up, I’m starting my life over again. I’m going to clean up, what I messed up, I’m starting my life over again. I made up my mind I ain’t lying no more, I’m going back to church and I’m going to walk right through the door. I’m going to clean up, what I messed up, I’m starting my life over again.
Thought For Today: “For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.” (Proverbs 8:7)
