Stay In Your Lane

“And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel had appointed: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. And Saul said, Bring hither a burnt offering to me, and peace offerings. And he offered the burnt offering. And it came to pass, that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the LORD: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering. And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”  (1 Samuel 13:8-14).

Today’s Morsel: What does stay in your lane mean? That phrase means “to mind your own business” or “stick with what you know and are good at.” One of the things you will learn about a micromanager is that they don’t know how to stay in their lane. In the army, we conducted lane training so that folks would know what their duty was and what it wasn’t. When you stay in your lane, you don’t bring judgement and negativity into your relationships with others, and you will feel better about being around people and people will feel better about being around you. The writer of Hebrews reminds us, “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1-2) God has placed each of us in a lane to run in. My lane isn’t your lane, and your lane isn’t my lane. But if you and I try to run in each other’s lane, or do each other’s duty, we can mess up what God is trying to do through us. God knows what He is trying to do with each of us. In 1 Samuel 13:8-14, we see Saul got out of his lane, and it cost him his kingship. Are you stressed, discouraged, or filled with anxiety because you are not in your lane? If so, get back in your lane and let God do what He desires to do through your life and stay in your lane. God knows where He has you and for what purpose.

Sing: I know the Lord will make a way for You. I know the Lord will make a way for You. If you live a holy life, shun the wrong and do the right, I know the Lord will make a way for you.
