Unbelieving Prayer Warriors

“Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.” (Acts 12:5)

Today’s Morsel: Throughout scripture, we see the call by Jesus and His disciples for us to pray. We have prayer meetings, prayer conferences, and even prayer walks, but sad to say, some of those who pray do not believe. We see this with the early church. Scripture says, “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him... And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.” (Acts 12:5, 11-16) Here they were praying for Peter, and God releases him from prison, and when he shows up, they don’t believe that it is him. They told Rhoda, it’s his angel. It can’t be Peter they said. They didn’t even believe that God was going to answer their prayers that quick. Sometimes God answers our prayer despite our unbelief because someone somewhere else is praying for our situation, too. The writer of Hebrews lets us know, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6) Do you believe when you pray?

Sing: I trust in God, wherever I may be, upon the land or on the rolling seas.  For come what may, from day to day, my Heavenly Father watches over, over me. And I trust in God, I know He cares for me; on the mountain bleak, or on the raging seas. Though billows roar, He keeps my soul.  My Heavenly Father watches over, over me.
