Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 November 8

Betrayal

“Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom. For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.” (Micah 7:5-6)

Today’s Morsel: Have you ever been betrayed? How did you feel? Did you feel as though someone had just rammed a knife through you? Well, the reason it hurt you so, is because the wound of a friend hurts more than the wounds of an enemy. In most cases, you have open yourself up to those whom you consider your friends, or those you may work with. And so, when they betray you, it damages you from within. And now you must guard yourself against this person for the rest of your life because they have deceived you. Even though you are willing to forgive them, there is no trust. In your heart, they are worse than the devil himself. Jesus said to Judas, when Judas led the mob to arrest Him and kissed Him, Jesus said, “Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?” (Luke 22:48) Jesus goes right at Judas’ heart, because He oftentimes referred to Himself to His disciples as the Son of Man. This would jog Judas’ memory of who he was betraying, His Lord and Master.  Maybe this was what jogged Judas’ memory to his error and led to his demise. He knew that he would have to live the rest of His life as a betrayer of his Lord and Master and he could not bear the burden.  We must keep that in mind.  If we betray someone, our betrayal may hurt the other person we betray, but the deeper damage is done within oneself because that friendship is tarnished for life and God is not well pleased.

Sing: You’re my brother, you’re my sister, so take me by the hand, together we will work until He comes.  There’s no foe that can defeat us, when we’re walking side by side, as long as there is love we can stand.
