What Are You Wearing?
“But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again; Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;” (Titus 2:1-12)
Today’s Morsel: How much would you say that you spend each year on clothing? I once heard a story that a man from a foreign country came to America to visit one of his American friends. When he arrived at his friend’s home, he could not believe how huge the home was and the number of rooms in the home. After spending a few weeks with his friend, the man returned to his home country and all his friends there wanted to know what it was like. The man began to relate to his friends the size of his friend’s home. He told them that his friend needed another house attached to the one that he had so that he could park his three cars. He told them that his friend had so many clothes, that he even had to have a separate room in his home to story all of them! As Americans, we are a blessed people. But does our attire reflect the doctrine of Christ? Just what are we wearing each day? Does our life reflect that Christ lives there. Does it reflect that we have been born again of the water and the spirit? Does it reveal grace and mercy that have found us? Does it show others that we are set apart for Christ’s use? Can others see that we walk in humility and love? Just what do we put on each day before we leave our home? Paul told Titus that he must teach the church that they must show all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things. Just what are you wearing today?
Sing: Put on the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, lift-up your voice to God. Pray in the Spirit and with understanding. Oh, magnify the Lord.
