Morning Manna by Rufus Parker - 2023 November 1

How Wise Are You?

“The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding; To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity; To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.” (Proverbs 1:1-4)

Today’s Morsel: How wise do you think you would be if you were to read the book of Proverbs each day? Proverbs are sentences of ethical wisdom and ethical maxims (short, pithy statements expressing a general truth or rule of conduct).  Solomon is credited with writing the Book of Proverbs. And he is listed as the wisest man to have ever lived. God told him when he asked Him for wisdom, “Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.” (1 Kings 3:12) Because he asked for wisdom to lead God’s people, God not only gave him what he asked for, but He also gave him things that he did not ask for. When we seek for wisdom, we are not trying to be like someone else.  We need wisdom to navigate through this life. People are looking and trying to find answers to the things they are facing and going through in life. And we who are born again ought to be ready to help them find the answer they need. All of life’s answer lie in the pages of the book of Proverbs, the book of wisdom. But if we do not study it, we are not going to possess the wisdom and understanding we need when it comes to dealing with life’s issues and to things that really matter.

Sing: To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus. On earth I long, to be like Him. All through life’s journey, from earth to glory; I only ask to be like Him.
