Sanctuary Cities
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” (Proverbs 18:10)
Today’s Morsel: If you follow the news, I’m sure that you have heard a lot about sanctuary cities. This was a concept established by God for the children of Israel when they came into the Promised Land. “The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying, Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime. And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.” (Joshua 20:1-6): It was to be a place for safety only if the person had killed someone accidently, and they knew that the avenger would want to get even. Solomon said that the name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into it and is safe. When we may accidently sin, do wrong things, or say things that we ought not to have said, we can go to Jesus for safety to prevent Satan from trying to take us and cause us harm. Not only was Jesus our high priest, but He has died for our sins which allows us to be free. Jesus is our sanctuary city. So, anything the devil accuses you of, you can enter in to name of Jesus and find safety.
Sing: Saved and I’m happy today, thanks be to God for this I can say, that I’m saved and I’m happy today, I’m walking up the Kings highway.
Thought For Today: “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.” (Revelation 21:23)
