Obtaining A Good End State
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.” (Proverbs 19:20)
Today’s Morsel: If we are planning on hearing those wonderful words spoken by Jesus of, “Well done thy good and faithful servant,” then we must learn to hear counsel and instructions. A good end state always starts with obedience. Paul informs us, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17) God’s word will keep us on course as to where we are heading, and what we are trying to obtain. As the Lord told Joshua that for him to obtain a good end state would be determined on whether he obeyed the instructions from the law that were passed down to him. He said, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) Notice, his success would be determined by if he followed what was written. And the same instructions were left for you and me. “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.” (Proverbs 4:13); “Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.” (2 Thessalonians 2:15); “Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 1:13); “Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.” (Titus 1:9) “But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.” (Revelation 2:25) If we are to obtain a good end state, then we must hold fast to the sound wisdom and instructions found in God’s word.
Sing: Hold to God’s unchanging hand, hold to God’s unchanging hand, build your hope on things eternal, hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Thought For Today: “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” (Revelation 3:3)
