Don’t Let Self-Righteousness Deceive You
“Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.” (Proverbs 21:2)
Today’s Morsel: Self-righteousness, if we are not careful, can lead us into a whole lot of trouble. One of the things that Jesus and His disciples cautioned us to be aware of was that of thinking more highly of ourselves then we ought. It’s easy to let self to get in the way of truth. Solomon tells us, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:12) You see, when I think that my way is always the right way, and I don’t care what others think, it can lead me right into Satan’s hand. No matter how right I might think that I am, my way is not always right. And here is why, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9) God’s ways and thoughts are not like ours. Even Paul tells us, “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence.” (1 Corinthians 1:25-29) Don’t let your righteousness deceive you, “For we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Isaiah 64:6) We must learn to follow Christ and allow His ways to be the ways that we choose to follow.
Sing: I thought that number one, would sure be me, I thought I could be whatever I wanted it to be, I thought, that I could build on life’s sinking sand, but I can’t even walk, without You holding my hand.
Lord, I can’t even walk, without You holding my hand, the mountains to high, and the valleys to wide. Down on my knees, that’s where I’ve learned to stand, and I can’t even walk, without You holding my hand.
Thought For Today: Righteousness without godly wisdom is just showmanship.
