Don’t Keep Going Back To Your Mess

“As a dog returneth to his vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly.” (Proverbs 26:11)

Today’s Morsel: Some folks just like going back to their old way of life that God has brought them out of. Solomon said that it is like a dog returning to eat his own vomit. Isaiah said that it is like a drunken man staggering in his vomit (Isaiah 19:14). Peter said. “But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.” (2 Peter 2:22) Why would one want to return to foolishness, hurt, suffering, drunkenness, and pain, when God has brought them out and has given them a new way of life? Paul calls for us to, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” (Galatians 5:1) We must not allow ourselves to get entangled  again with the old lifestyle that God has delivered us from. Again, Paul informs us, “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-12) We are now on our way to heaven, and sin cannot enter there. As Isaiah said:“And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.” (Isaiah 35:8)Don’t go back to your old mess, it’s not worth your eternal salvation.

Sing: I was sinking deep in sin, far from the peaceful shore, very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more; but the Master of the sea, heard my despairing cry, from the waters lifted me, now safe am I.

Love lifted me! Love lifted me! When nothing else could help, love lifted me; Love lifted me, love lifted me, when nothing else could help, love, lifted me. 

Thought For Today: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” (Ephesians 5:15-16)
